More or less same crap every year. But I'll still go cuz
Reminds me of this song......
Gypsys, tramps, and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us Gypsys, tramps, and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down
.... yeah, weird, but you know. I only go when it's free.

Ribfest is where it was last year, close to the old smash up derby area. Misty mountain had the best so far IMHO

I'm not even going to bother with the BBQ this year. Last couple have been a total disappointment. Sure some of the brisket and stuff is tasty but for the line ups, cost, and then to get some cold ribs? I'll stick to the traditional fair food and try some of the new stuff this year

I usually like to check out the As Seen on TV shit, but dude dont make me sit though the whole spiel when I just want to buy the damn thing.. Last year I couldn't buy a Sham-wow cause I had to watch the whole presentation.. Walked away with 10 other people wanting it too, saved myself money by buying a bulk pack of microfibers from Costco.
I wouldn't go for the BBQ, you can get that shit anywhere and better quality too. But I always end up getting mini donuts and tickets for the prize home.

I went yesterday, mainly just to be fat and eat everything. I should've saved all the pics from my snapchat story, gdi.
Red velvet donuts were OK. Mini donut poutine was actually pretty good. It's a unique texture, and I liked it haha. Ribs, pulled pork and brisket was pretty good. Not like, amazing, but not bad at all. I got them from Gator BBQ, and the ribs were so good we all totally forgot about the sauce. Also tried the Chicken and Waffles, and it was pretty good, IMO. On the way back out, I bought another one and gave it to my mom, and she loved it lol. I also went to the Craft Beer thing. It was kinda small, but all the beers I tried were pretty good. The little cup thing they give you is kinda neat too; it's gonna go to all the house parties with my friends now lol.

You'll get in easily after the initial mad rush. Give it half an hour, so 11:30ish. It varies from year to year. Usually, the entrance by Pacific Coliseum has the shortest lineup, while Playland and main entrances are pretty nuts. I saw one C-lai run faster than Insane Bolt to make it before the 1:00 pm deadline at the PC entrance, hee hee. I was about to get my hand stamped for reentry later in the evening when I saw this spectacle.
IIRC, there was little to no lineup at around 1:00 pm at the PC entrance.

Plenty of free street parking on Hastings. Gotta remember to get out by 3:00 PM. for those who have or friend has handicap card, you can park on residential streets for three hours. It's a Vancouver thing. I don't have a card, so not 100% sure.
No lineup. They opened early.

I was looking for you, but so many people. You'd think a father would be able to find his son a little easier. I was mainly at the marketplace. Ceramic knives, ftmfw! Get new set every year for life. Watched some hula dancers. Meh, being part Polynesian I know what's good. Anyway blew the joint. Will come back later in evening. Got hand stamped.

Went last night at 10pm for $5 and like previous poster, agree was mostly dead. All exhibits closed, concerts over, some light rain.
Got the last skewer of red velvet mini donuts (crazy good!), had some brisket and ribs. Went to the beer garden (the only busy area) and people were going NUTS for Dueling Pianos. It's actually a pretty good show: nonstop upbeat cover songs from the 70's and up. Downside was so many young brown dudes acting all tough, tried to start a fight in the bathroom.
HELP: anybody know where to get lightsaber like toys at PNE? Saw a guy with a really cool near-Star Wars looking lightsaber toy, and the light up effect looked cool and expensive. (Handle did not light up, saw many kids with cheaper looking swords that lit up all through the handle)

I'm not sure if what I'm thinking is the one you're referring to. I've been working a booth at PNE this year and frequently see these PNE people walking around selling a light saber looking thing and some other toy. Doesn't appear they have a designated spot that I've noticed but then again I haven't walked around much either.

For that first stand (closest to the poutine place on the left) I believe there is a coupon in the fair coupon book ($2 normally, but free coupon for the book in the Province newspaper, redeem at Guest services). Coupon gives you like 1lb pulled pork if you order their large family meal thing, might have been like $40, but I cant remember what it came with sorry. Good if you want to split with a bunch of people or take some food home with you.

Once a year is all I can take of the place. The fair has less and less to offer. Back in the day where there were at least three more buildings, including the one that housed the BC Sports Hall of Fame and the huge ass 3D relief map of BC. I miss the PNE parade that started downtown and winded its way down Hastings Street to Clarke Drive. It kicked off the PNE every year and got everyone buzzing. People were lined up five deep on both sides of the streets and solid from beginning to end. It was a huge event that drew great marching bands and floats from across North America. Televised, too. No more motocross, demolition derby, lumberman' show, etc. Now the highlight is Dueling Banjo's (piano). Nuff said.
