Figured the show deserved it's own thread considering the majority of the last 2 pages of the Netflix thread is Narcos content.

I finished season 1 last night and think it's been really well made and entertaining so far.

Murphy is getting badass in the last couple episodes. Curious to see how much trouble he gets himself in and how his marriage is effected.

Escobar seems to be losing his shit.. I expect the violence level to be turned up come season 2!

Netflix hasn't committed to a second season but they'd pretty stupid not to do it considering the positive response from fans and critics alike.

Yea I ran through the first season in a couple days, really enjoy it as well. I love that it keeps things character driven without deviating too far from the actual events. I'm hoping that if the series continues that later season dive into the Cartel's history back in Miami, New York and California post Pablo. IE Cocaine Cowboys 1+2 with people like Griselda Blanco and so forth.

I thought Narcos could last longer as a show if it were an anthology series chronicling the rise and fall of notorious drug kingpins (different cast each season). I'm not sure how many seasons they can drag on with only Escobar.

I felt they were moving way too fast through actual events in 1 season, they could probably drag out 1 more season with Pablo, but as mentioned, hopefully they turn it into a series about the other crime lords during & post pablo

yah thats a good one

there's also that one with benicio del toro, Escobar: Paradise Lost (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2515030/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_8) but it's not really about Escobar it's about a character that may or may not be real (director/writer heard about it through an officer)

there's another film titled Escobar (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4682788/?ref_=nv_sr_4) coming out next year with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, it takes the perspective of that female reporter that had the affair with Eescobar

Dont think Cruz is 'street' enough to play Virginia Vallejo aka Valeria.

thats what i was thinking. how the hell are they going to take it any further? at the end of season one hes already escaped jail and hiding out. after that happened he was alive for only about 6 months or so till he was found and killed.

blew through this in a few days. damn this show was good. i suppose s2 will detail his escape/death for the first half and the follow up for the second half.

have to say i picked up a bit of spanish just watching this show lol

can someone clarify: in the second to last ep where Pablo kills the two men in the prison, did they end up eating the bodies??? it made it seem like it when the guy said "don't waste the meat"...

I'm pretty sure the guy says something along the lines of "I'm doing this to hide the smell" meaning that they were trying to hide the smell of burning flesh with an actual bbq of their own.

yeah i thought so too. i was just really confused because in that context i guess eating them would make sense too lol (less evidence), but it would have been weird to take the story in that direction all of a sudden.

Binge watched it this weekend. Amazing show. I do agree with people saying that the story moved quite fast since they just renewed season 2.

Also, I read a few articles about the show and apparently the real life DEA agent Murphy havn't met his partner Pena until later on in the Narcos show.

"I was only in Colombia about three days when Escobar surrendered to his custom built prison," Murphy told the Observer.

In the show, that happens in Episode 9 (out of 10), with Murphy coming to Colombia in the first episode.

Nah he was directly responsible for 1000s of murders, airplane bombing, city bombing etc. That farm scene was going good for sympathy then did pig's blood scene metaphor/foreshadowing of his death. I felt bad Javi wasn't there to get Pablo.

have you not ever read up on the story of pablo escobar? its fucking easy to know that he dies if you've even read up the slightest about him. but in the end, ya i was a little sad. i dont care if he really did kill thousands of people. the man in himself was still dope. i'm just glad this show is going to continue on for the foreseeable future.

He is dope? FailFish A fucking lunatic that believes all his murders are just. Brainwashed his wife and mother, put his kids in danger times and times again because of his ego. Surrounded himself with a bunch of sick fucks. It's easy to see why the Cali cartel was successful. Watch his scene with Gustavo you will understand.

Re-watched last episode 3 times because so fucking satisfying.

I am not sure why Virginia Vallejo (the female reporter, Pablo's affair) was killed on the show. She is still alive in real life and she even wrote books about her relationship with Escobar in 2007.

The show made it feel like Pablo sold drugs not just for financial gain, but for the resources to garner influence and respect/fear. The Cali Cartel is/was all about the money.

War on Drugs is not all about Escobar, they could milk a few seasons if the audience is there. They could move to another location/ continent, like the Gold Triangle in SE Asia. Or continue with the Cali Cartel.

Also keep in mind, the show is mixed fiction so there are characters that don't exist in real life, and some get killed off even thought they live.

From what I read, the reporter is a fictional character, Valeria Velez, who is inspired by Virginia Vallejo. Also there was never a Judy Moncada.

Would be nice if they did included the stuff that went down in Miami and NYC in future episodes. Would be cool if they did a season on Griselda Blanco.

totally sympathised with Escobar, he started off as Robin Hood building schools and helping the poor... but that amount of money/popularity/power would get to any man's head

the really fucked up thing I thought was the police and Steve Murphy posing for pictures with Escobar's corpse. They weren't arresting a criminal anymore, this was a prized buck and everybody wanted a picture with it.... who's the monster here?

Even savages have families and have the ability to love - they are humans, like us, after all. And because they are human, they are capable of doing good, but are also capable of doing evil. The show does really well in making viewers question the traditional spectrum of right and wrong, especially in parts where we see Pablo doing very human things, like being a husband, father, and provider. What potentially can freak people out is the fact that, while Pablo was an extreme mass murderer, there were times he was also a very sympathetic and relatable figure. His longing for a home and his family, for example, were all emotions that viewers could easily relate to. His time at his father's farm, as well, showed a very human vulnerability that completely shed his aura of invincibility. Pablo's death was undoubtedly deserved. But you can't help but think at the end of it all that, "damn, Pablo was human too".

finally finished it

felt like the whole season dragged on because pretty much everyone who was watching knew the end game...i still think the first season covered so much so fast, left the 2nd season a little longer than it should have been

While i think it's a bit messed up re posing with Pablo's corpse, you have to understand the context of it. This was a legendary guy, who at his empire's height essentially owned Medellin. Committed assassinations, terrorism, while seemingly able to slip away when it seemed like the roof was going to cave in on him. To the guys posing, it IS like taking down that legendary buck that no one could catch. These guys put in blood, sweat and tears, lost friends in the line of duty and/or family in the shit storm that Pablo created. So I'd be hard-pressed to call em monsters. Hell, I'd do bunny ears around that motherfucker's bloodied head if I was one of those guys who's put in the work in catching him.

RRxtar

To them catching Pablo was like taking Sadam or Moammar Gadhafi. or the allies taking Berlin. we cant relate to it.
