Situation:

My HP computers graphics card malfunctioned, it's an old PC and I cannot find an old card to replace it with.

So I bought an HDD enclosure and took the HDD out and wanted to transfer the old docs onto my new desktop which I recently bought.

When I get to the file transfer stage and load up the HDD I double click onto the username folder on my old PC and it just shows a windows explorer with a green bar at the top which loads all the way and stops before the end and just sits there.

Is this the correct process to view/recover the files, or is there a better way?

That computer you linked on your ad is a newer model with PCI Express x16 graphics card, shouldn't be hard to replace (assuming you linked the right computer).

In any case, you could try Roadkil.Net - Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier Program Download (http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P29/Unstoppable%20Copier) to copy files off the old drive. You may need to force a checkdisk on the drive as well: once it's plugged in and has a drive letter, right-click the letter, go to Properties, then Tools, then click Check Now under Error Checking. Make sure the "Automatically fix file system errors" box is checked.

I downloaded the program.

The window I described earlier (that showed the green bar all the way then stuck) eventually went all the way through and I'm navigating my old files. I was able to access all my files :)

Problem solved:

Bought a HDD enclosure, setup onto new computer accessed all my files.

As for the old computer that stopped working, the problem was the video card. Bought a new video card, now it's working :)
