hm, :notbad:

i say that as a star trek fan whose given up on seeing films surrounding scientific exploration / political intrigue
star trek has devolved into simply action flicks, and Justin Lin as the director just confirms it, so... as an action flick :notbad:

Yup TNG is gone and we'll never get it back BibleThump

That said, as action sci-fi flicks, the new ST movies are good.

I'm in the same boat. Star Trek was always supposed to be about exploring new worlds and in turn reflecting back on today's society - the issues and dilemmas of our time viewed through a futuristic utopian lens. Heck even the Original Series found time to do this in between Kirk bagging green alien chicks.

These movies seem content to bash us over the head with special effects and the occasional call back to the Original Series. Entertaining, maybe to some, but hardly Star Trek.

I feel the same way about most remakes -- i'm hugely disappointed in all of the new bond movies for this reason. those are great action flicks, but not bond movies.

I'll watch this ST in theatres, but may as well call it Warp & Weaponry instead.
