Hopefully this season brings us some competitive racing action for the lead all the time, not just once or twice in 21 races.

Here's a nice behind the scenes video of Hass F1's new logistics facility.

Renault just bought back their F1 team from Genii capital for $1.50. Also paying 4 mil in taxes to Uk govt and assuming about 200 mil worth of debt.

Ferrari splits from FiatChrysler.

Good start.

Please please let there be some parity for this upcomming season!

I want Haas to come out the gate and be competitive.

Mclaren to come back to form!

Fingers crossed.

heard the rumours but missed the official announcement from BBC (just before Christmas) that they're dropping F1 coverage :/

'Channel 4' is taking over, and they've already contracted David Coulthard

I wonder what this means for TSN coverage now? their coverage sucks as is, but at least they still gave us a little pip during commercials. Channel 4 has commercials, although i'm not sure if they'll make changes for F1 now?

Eff-1

I'd prefer TSN uses the feed from a broadcaster with commercials. That way, the director will have some say on timing of the commercials and they show replays of anything that happened during the commercial break.

The split screen drives me nuts. A good idea that TSN executes poorly.

I'm happy that we'll get to keep Coulthard, I've grown to like him more than Brundle & the crew over at Sky.

That being said, I really like Sky's pre/post race features, I wish we got more of that.

Sky's pre/post race features are top-notch. Coulthard nudges above Brundle in my books, so I'm glad they're keeping Coulthard on board :)

I think we'll see another Merc dominant year again with Ferrari being closer, but not quite there again. Looks like it will be an exciting year throughout the field with all the engine changing, new teams, and driver swaps!!

This make my mind hurt, it could spice things up a bit I guess.

So I wonder what that means for us here with TSN :/

Are we going to get the Sky stream, or are we just going to see the race with no commentary?

FYI Maldonado doesn't have a seat in 2016, his sponsors missed the payment deadline, it was rumoured to be so recently, and the other day Maldonado confirmed it

and today it was officially announced that Kevin Magnussen has replaced Pastor

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/magnussen-confirmed-at-renault-f1-team-671355/

Renault has finally confirmed that Kevin Magnussen will be joining its new works team in Formula 1 this year.

The Dane is to replace Pastor Maldonado, whose contract with the team was terminated following payment issues with his long-time backers PDVSA.

Although Magnussen was agreed at the weekend, as Motorsport.com first reported, Renault preferred to wait until an official team launch in Paris on Wednesday to make its line-up official.

Magnussen, who will race alongside Jolyon Palmer, returns to F1 after a season as McLaren reserve driver.

The Dane, who scored an impressive podium finish on his debut with the team in 2014, had initially focused his efforts on a race return with Haas for 2016 but was beaten to that seat by Romain Grosjean.

GP3 champion Esteban Ocon, previously a Mercedes junior, has also been confirmed as the team's third driver.Renault has finally confirmed that Kevin Magnussen will be joining its new works team in Formula 1 this year.

The new qualifying format is terrible, it needs to be changed right away before the next race... The pole was decided with more than 3 minutes left in Q3, whereas before you didnt know until after the checkered flag...

Noran
03-18-2016, 11:02 PM
Absolute garbage. Who's idea was it to require teams to do an out lap, flyer, in lap, and repeat within ~6.5 minutes?

Maybe it will help the race with the cars being out of order? I don't know. I'm lost.

Super choked with Q3.

I can't conclude that Mercedes has a clear 1.000s advantage over Ferrari. We'll find out in the race, but I don't feel like the gap is that big. I don't think that Ferrari put in their best lap in Q3, while Mercedes took two attemps, both faster on their second run.

Great68
03-19-2016, 07:11 AM
Garbage qualifying, needs to change. At the very least drivers should be able to complete their flying lap before they're knocked out.

And this forebodes for another boring season of Mercedes 1-2's. I would have expected the other teams to get a lot closer after three seasons.

Jack Brabhams son, Gary (also a racer) is convicted of raping a child...

Gary Brabham has been found guilty of raping a girl under the age of 12, one count of indecent treatment, and not guilty of five counts of indecent treatment.

The 1988 British Formula 3 runner-up and ’89 British F3000 champion was convicted in Brisbane District Court, Australia, after a day of deliberation by the jury.

Now 54, Brabham’s offences were said to have occurred between 2003 and ’07, when the victim was between six and 10 years old. Sentencing will take place on April 15.

Brabham is the second son of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham, who died in May 2014.

Following his junior formula success, Brabham tried to make it in Formula 1, driving the abortive Life project in 1990, but after failing to qualify for two races, he turned to sportscars.

In 1991, Brabham teamed with his older brother Geoff, who was dominating IMSA at the time, and Derek Daly, to win the Sebring 12 Hours with Nissan. A repeat attempt in 1992 ended in retirement.

Brabham also made two CART Indy car starts, on home soil in the Surfers Paradise rounds in 1993 and ’94.

Looking at all the circumstances, I agree with the FIA that racing incident is the right call.

Rosberg had the right to defend, Hamilton had a "little bit" of his car beside Rosberg but not enough that would say he effectively "took the space".

It was the unexpected difference in Hamilton's closing speed that made all the difference. Both guys made some mis-judgements within milliseconds.

If the FIA laid blame squarely on only one of those two guys, it would ruin all "Racing" from here on out.

As a result of this incident, Nico has two things going for him: A) Hamilton has one less race to make up his points deficit and B) Hamilton now knows that Nico isn't going to be so willing to just "move aside" for him next time he's trying to pass

mb_
05-17-2016, 11:13 PM

That was a pretty good race. If Vettel had been able to close the gap (or if his team hadn't had made the wrong call) it would have been much more fun to watch. I loved watching Verstappen close the door on Nico, over those last few laps.

If you didn't watch it, in the Sky Sports post-race interviews, Vettel crashes Hamilton's interview and kept on rambling about the two seagulls (which he had mentioned in the pre-podium briefing room after the race), which no-one else saw. Sky said they couldn't find any footage of said birds. Vettel said he'll wait until they find the footage. :lol They finally found it, turn 1, right before the virtual safety car. :awwyeah:

Rich

there was no gap, the gap was only there the moment he saw it, but it disappeared before he acted, not sure if i mentioned it here, but he would have had to have been going light speed to make that gap, he should have gone on the outside or been a bit more reasoned and tactical, cuz there was no way he would've made it

I thought that was actually an enjoyable track given how boring the race was. The long straight reminded me of the days when cars would attempt to overtake going into turn 1 at Indianapolis. Too bad the race results were predictable the moment qualifying ended.

Rosberg tried to pull a Ham and run Ham wide by taking that turn deep, but Ham turned into him and foiled Rosbergs plans

Ros should have just settled for 2nd there, even with a DNF he's still ahead of Hamilton in points, so it was stupid to risk it all

Ros got into 1st down from 6th at this track... and still ended 4th with a busted car ;)

if Ros had done what Ham did, turning into him, at any of the previous incidents where Ham ran Ros wide, the world would still be bitching at Ros, he just can't win ;)

Agreed, for a guy that "can't drive" he made some great for position passes after his pit stop to get himself into the lead. If it wasn't for that safety car, Hamilton may never have caught up by the end of the race.

Rosberg tried to pull a Hamilton but got it wrong. It's still his fault, but you're right, if the situation was reversed Rosberg would have received the blame for turning in.

I didn't have a problem with what Hamilton did it's a fair tactic and he had to try something, but I don't blame Mercedes for saying something or having some sort of talk with Hamilton after the race, otherwise like you say in the future neither driver will listen to the team.

I was happy to see Rosberg hold on to the drivers championship. Especially to see all the crazy conspiracies and things the Hamilton fanboys would have to say.

I'm a Lewis fanboy only because I can't stand Nico's attitude. He's so entitled, terrible in front of cameras when he's not happy, and easily gets flustered under any kind of pressure or criticism. He always comes across to me like a spoiled brat who throws a tantrum when things don't go his way.

The team was totally naive to think Hamilton would have done anything else given the situation. He did what he needed to try and win the title. If the team has gone on record to say there are "no team orders" then they should live by that rule, especially since the constructors standings were not in play.

To those pointing out future team politics, it shouldn't matter when it's the last race. The politics in races 1 - 20 are always going to be there, but in race 21 that's when you throw out the book and go for it. Like in the baseball playoffs, the starters end up in the bullpen because there is no tomorrow to worry about.

As for Nico showing class this time, well it's easy for anyone to show class when you win the championship. Otherwise you find yourself throwing your hat at your teammate ;)

i would rather see hulkenburger, or verstappen or wehrlein or pretty much anyone with him as a teammate to see a real battle.

NICO ROSBERG HAS RETIRED!

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/newly-crowned-champion-rosberg-retires-from-formula-1-856112/

Newly-crowned champion Rosberg retires from Formula 1

By: Pablo Elizalde, News Editor
Nico Rosberg has announced he will retire from Formula 1 after securing this year's world championship.

The Mercedes driver made his announcement during the FIA world champions gala on Friday in Vienna, just five days after securing his title.

Rosberg, 31, clinched his first title in Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, beating Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The German said that, having achieved his childhood dream, he felt it was the right time to stop.

"For me it is a very special day to receive the trophy. This evening is going to be amazing but for another reason: I want to take the opportunity to announce the end of my F1 career," said Rosberg.

"Since I was six years old I had a clear dream, that was to become F1 world champion and it was very clear in my mind, whatever I could think, I have achieved it. I will remember forever.

"I have achieved this childhood dream now, so I'm not willing to do more commitment. I don't want to do it again. I have decided to follow my heart.

"I want to call it a day and go on to other things and it feels right to me.

"I feel excited, my wife is excited. Thank you very much for the support these years."

Sorry to put team in "difficult situation"

Rosberg said that his only regret regarding the announcement was that it put his Mercedes team in a "difficult situation" - the German having originally been signed through to 2018.

"For me personally [the decision] is not that difficult, it feels right," Rosberg said.

"The only thing that makes it [difficult], I am putting my racing family into a challenging situation and that is the hardest part for me."

Elaborating on how the idea to retire came about, Rosberg said: "It was after Suzuka. In Suzuka, it became my title to lose - and that is when the pressure really started also, and when I started to think about this: 'If I do achieve my childhood dream, then it would be great to end there.'

"This year was the best I can be, definitely. In the preparation and anything, I put everything into it.

"I achieved what I set out for. It is clear from six years old, starting off in go-kart, it was dream already, inspired by my dad, and all the way through. There it was more a childhood thing, going for that – I have done it and I am so happy.

"At the same time, it was a very, very tough year and I don't want to do that again."

Mercedes seat available

His retirement means Mercedes will have an opening alongside the Briton next year.

"This is a brave decision by Nico and testament to the strength of his character," said team boss Toto Wolf.

"He has chosen to leave at the pinnacle of his career, as world champion, having achieved his childhood dream. The clarity of his judgement meant I accepted his decision straight away when he told me.

"For the team, this is an unexpected situation but also an exciting one. We are going into a new era of technical regulations and there is a free Mercedes cockpit for the seasons ahead.

"We will take the necessary time to evaluate our options and then find the right path for our future."

So just as everyone was giving props to Hamilton for being nice, Hamilton decides to give a comment about Nico retiring, and his first words are

Wow talk about taking it out of context.

Let's read the WHOLE article next time.

The Briton says that, with Rosberg having beaten him for the first time in 18 years, he was not surprised by the decision.

"The sport will miss him but I wish him all the best. I am sure it is a surprise to many people. I am probably the only person who thought it was not a surprise because I've known him a long time, but this is motor racing," Hamilton said.

"This is the first time he has won in 18 years, hence why it was not a surprise that he decided to stop.

"He's got a family to focus on, and wants more children, and F1 takes so much time. Will I miss the rivalry? Of course.

"We had always talked about being champions and when I joined this team and Nico was there, which is also something we talked about when we were kids.

"It is definitely something very strange and it'll be sad to not have him in the team next year."

Hamilton admitted, however, that he would have preferred to have the chance to fight back and beat Rosberg next season, although he said he was not too bothered by the decision.

"I wouldn't say I was annoyed. Of course it is a shame that he won't allow me to take it back or fight to take it back, but that is his choice and I respect his decision – go out on top while you can," he said.

Wow talk about taking it out of context.

Let's read the WHOLE article next time.

So was that a nice comment? I mean let's just ignore the fact I called ya a cocoksucker since there was other nice stuff in there... Context after all

Wellllll.. Lets keep in mind

Race Wins:
- Ham: 10
- Ros: 9

Pole Pos:
- Ham: 12
- Ros: 8

It came down to the last race, and Ros won by 5 points. I wouldn't call that handily. It was a close finish and Ros deserved the championship, he did what he needed to win.

Rich

Ur comparing season totals, I'm talking about the races where ham didn't have reliability issues at the beginning of the season

Ham snapped that's when he started running Ros off the road

anyone ever been to monte carlo during gp?
i'm headed there in may because I enjoyed the montreal f1 weekend vibe

Not exactly during the race because I had to head back up to the Nurburgring 24 hours race on that same weekend. But I stayed at the Fairmont Monte Carlo just a few days before the race. There was a few F1 drivers that was at the hotel during our stay. Saw Jenson Button in the gym. I even got to drive the F1 circuit in my own car at night since I was doing European Delivery in my BMW.
