looks like Thunderbolt USB-C is definitely going to become the new standard...man I remember when TB mobos were like $600 when I built my rig 4 years ago haha.

stupid question but if i buy a USB-C to USB-A cable, can I use a 5.1V/3.6A battery pack to charge an ultrabook?

The tappro S screen is probably just beautiful in person.

Can someone with a little more knowledge explain how devices like these can operate without and vents.

I had a surface 3 which had no vents but it had the atom processor. Apparently fanless in nature.

I upgraded to the pro 3 which has a nice vent a long the side and top of the device.

I looked at a macbook air and it has nothing.

Is heat not an issue at all or am I missing something with their designs?

Core M only sips a few watts...passively cooled like your phone/tablet.

I'm waiting for some TB3 graphics dock to be announced

What about an i5 powered macbook air with no venting.

StylinRed

the case probably acts like a heatsink?

i know you can buy fanless aluminum pc cases for a custom build and the cases are the heatsink (passively cooled)

not sure how hot they get though, if at all

like the cases these guys sell A-Tech Fabrication Home Page (http://www.atechfabrication.com/index.htm)

but i read that the macbook air does have cooling vents/intakes by the hinge
at least the older one https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook-Air-13-Inch-Mid-2011-Teardown/6130/1

oh here's a newer (2015) article talking about the mba http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/macbook-air-overheating-5-things-can/

Dont know when the price will drop to $1500 around.
Probably 3-4 years later ??
That would be more reasonable.

I'm assuming the panel is made by LG...LG themselves will probably release a non-professional one for $1000 US in a year or two.

What are you talking about? The Macbook Air has vents in the hinge. The Macbook doesn't since it has Core M.

makes me want to return a monitor i got last month even more now... thinking that the price on this new one will drop quick or that lg will come out with a 'budget' edition soon

in fact i just checked my receipt! only to find that i just missed the return deadline on Sunday -_-

bought it a month ago, but have been using my tv as the monitor instead, the monitor i bought is still sitting on the floor waiting to be hooked up! (lg 31mu97)

:okay:

maybe i'll try craigslisting or ebaying it... because im enjoying using my tv so much more too :/

if it's a few days over just try to take it back
but you're basing all this on pure speculation...I'm even surprised they announced OLED monitors let alone 4K or 120Hz...don't expect them to be affordable any time soon.

Hehe

I think the highlight of CES 2016 was the OLED monitor.

Can't wait for it to drop into more reasonable range. 2000USD and they can consider one sold.

it'll be a pita if they dont, the box is huge, with no handle grip :/

basing it more on my enjoyment of using my tv instead, this oled just pushed me over the edge :lol

ill give it a shot though

Very disappointed to see only one TB3 external graphics dock so far. With it being produced by Razer, I can imagine it costing a steep $499+

Oh well, the 960M in my XPS 15 is more than sufficient at the moment.

Thanks, didn't see that.

Wish it wasn't so flashy. I don't want a big black box with red lights everywhere.

You can make your own eGPU for about 150$. Assuming you have mPCIE for your laptop.

I made one for my old ass Dell D630, and got it to run SC2 WoL 1920x1200 on max settings :D. But it had to run off a mSATA port. Which was kind of a bummer and awkward.

Yeah, but one of the features that propelled me to get my Dell was the built-in TB3 port.

I don't want to deal with any DIY akitio kits. I just want to shove a video card in the enclosure, plug it in and call it a day, lol.

have you tried steam in-home streaming yet?

it's not the same thing but it's a free option to try first.

At the 2016 CES:

Next-Gen Audi TT RS Debuting With OLED Taillights (http://www.carscoops.com/2016/01/next-gen-audi-tt-rs-debuting-with-oled.html)

A few lucky journalists had the opportunity to take a look at the rear-end of the upcoming Audi TT RS at CES 2016. Included in the high-performance sports car's rear are a set of advanced OLED taillights.

With the M4 GTS, BMW became the first manufacturer to offer OLED taillights in a production car and depending on when the new TT RS launches, it will become the second car to bring such technology to the streets.

For the new TT RS, the OLED lights will be offered as an optional extra and, as the video shows, they also offer a new design compared to the inner part of the regular TT. Given the rapid development of automotive lighting technologies, OLEDs will probably be the next big thing, following in the footsteps of traditional LEDs.

OLED stands for Organic LED and, unlike traditional LED lights, OLEDs are surface lights and allow for more advanced designs.

Beyond its new lights, reports claim that the new TT RS will be powered by the same turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder as the current RS3 Sportback. However, power is expected to be lifted from the 362 hp of the RS3 to 395 hp. Available with a dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, the new TT RS is tipped to only accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4 seconds.
