Let's hope they do a better job of keeping him in jail this time. :chairdance:
'El Chapo' recaptured after jail break - BBC News (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-35266952)
Mexican authorities have recaptured drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, six months after he escaped from a maximum-security jail.
In a post on Twitter, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said: "Mission accomplished: We got him."
Guzman was one of the world's most-wanted drug lords, whose Sinaloa cartel smuggled cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines to the US.
The US had offered a $5m (£3.2m) reward for information leading to his capture

Since El Chapo is captured at the conclusion of a shootout with the (Mexican) marines, I bet there were more than a few disappointed people on the government side to see kingpin getting out of that one alive.

i think if they wanted him dead, they would've just killed him, or left orders to kill him
it's interesting that Mexico has left it's hopes on the Navy rather than the Police/Army/etc. as they're 'too corrupt'
I wonder how long before he escapes again? doesn't matter too much though it's not like the cartels have fallen

Wouldn't it be simpler (and cleaner) to just have El Chapo killed off? I agree that in the short term, capturing him alive makes for a more presentable outcome -- they can claim all that "bring him to justice within the legal system" bullshxt. But the guy has already escaped twice, and as long as he remains in Mexico, you can bet he is going to make a 3rd escape attempt.

what happen to El Chapo running a billion dollar drug empire and only having 10 person crew looking after him??...he had enough to bribe officials but not enough to look after him?
i really wonder the details where they found him.

i thought his empire had mostly fallen apart? or his part of it, and i guess when there's a $5million US bounty on you, you only want your most trusted guys on Defense :lol

They should extradite him to the US. But make the Americans come pick him up.

Knowing nothing about the situation, I wonder why they haven't killed him yet. I would just assume no one wants to be held responsible for it.

'El Chapo': Mexico signals extradition to US
The Mexican attorney general's office says it will begin the process of extraditing recaptured drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the US.
It said the move was in line with US extradition requests from 2014.
On Friday Guzman was detained and sent back to the maximum-security prison he escaped from six months ago.
Guzman, who was one of the world's most wanted drug traffickers, escaped from there in July through a tunnel dug in the showers.
That was his second escape - he was first arrested in Guatemala in 1993 and escaped from Puente Grande jail in 2001, reportedly in a laundry basket after bribing officials.

Was reading TIME earlier today, and I am surprised to learn that one of the reasons El Chapo got caught is because he was apparently in contact with filmmakers, with plans to make a movie about himself. Authorities got ahold of that news, and were able to follow up on the trail.
I am simply at a loss of what I can possibly say to that... When you are a fugitive on the run, why would you even be thinking about that?

he was interviewed by Sean Penn for a Rollingstone article :crazy2:
'El Chapo': Sean Penn interviewed Guzman before recapture - BBC News (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-35275070)

On Friday, January 8th, nearly six months after his escape from Mexico's most secure prison, Sinaloa Cartel boss Joaquín Guzmán Loera, a.k.a. El Chapo, was apprehended and taken back into custody. Just months earlier, Sean Penn had traveled in secret through the Mexican jungle to meet with Chapo, then America's most wanted international fugitive. Upon meeting Penn, the drug kingpin consented an interview at a later time. Ultimately, it proved impossible to do the interview in-person, but Penn sent questions by BBM device and Chapo agreed to record his responses on videotape. Without being present, Penn could neither control the questioning, nor prod for elaborations into his responses. The video that Chapo sent back – two minutes of which you can view above – represents what we believe to be the notorious drug lord's first-ever interview outside an interrogation.

We'll see if he actually gets extradited, as it could be seen as an admission that Mexico is unable to keep a prisoner locked up, and that their system is inadequate.
If he does though, he's fucked for sure.
