I really have mixed feelings about this if this is actually true, I have loved the series and the last movie was awesome but I think this is really pushing it. The way the last one ended was perfect and I think they should just leave it that way rather then being greedy and still trying to cash in.

IIRC, the movie was already in the works (with contracts signed) before Paul Walker passed away.

Correct. Fast 8 was already a done deal pretty much. They(producers) are looking to keep this money train chugging along for as long as possible. It could go well into double digits at this point.

pretty sure Vin Diesel said he was going to film it to # 10, as he's helping produce the movies. He said this when he accepted an award in the last few weeks (forget what the award show was called)

I really enjoyed 5, 6, 7.

8 is gonna have some tough steps to climb to be even better than 7.

01-18-2016, 08:29 PM
it's a massively successful franchise...it just blew up after 5 and the money kept rolling in for Universal.
I doubt it'll even end with Diesel leaving after #10
before we know it it's gonna overtake the Bond franchise in terms of sequels

My mind on this franchise has sure shifted over the years. For reference I was 19 when the first one came out.

#1 - Oh shiet so fucking cool
#2 - Sucked
#3 - Ok enough
#4 - Seriously fucking enough already
#5,6,7 - Shit just got real again.

Needless to say I'm on board with #8 and #9 and #10 and so on.

white rocket

Now the franchise is basically a full fledged action flick that happens to have cars as a minor focal point. A far cry from the first one. It's almost like Mission Impossible with a different rag-tag cast. The franchise will give way to older actors wanting a part role(ie: Kurt Russell) and also current popular actors (ie: Jason Statham) to be the villian. It's endless really. It "should" surpass Bond with ease.

As Vin has said many times. Fast 7 was FOR Paul, Fast 8 is FROM Paul. The concept of this one was mostly Paul's vision so it will be interesting to see.

Berz out.

Plot twist is so good, almost regret watching the trailer. Cause I knew I was gonna watch this movie in theatres anyway, and shit would have been nuts had I learnt about the twist during the movie...!

But you know, these are the kind of things that keeps the franchise alive.
The first few films were strictly just about car racing. And it was good fun for enthusiasts, but the franchise wouldn't have survived if that was the only thing they did. It's a niche market and the demopgrahics isn't strong enough. It's not a conincedence the franchise exploded after the the last few movies when it became more of an action thriller movie with a theme of using sports cars and a theme of car racing.

I know last movie was the perfect ending for the franchise. And the series was getting stale, but with a twist like this, it sure got me wanting to know more about the plot with this one.

The first was a great movie, based off an article in a magazine I think. The second and third were pretty good, though a bit cheesier. The forth it stopped being about cars and started becoming a shitty action movie, then 5/6/7 it went full shitty action movie. The plots of the latest 3 have been so bad I barely remember them, other than the pathetic grasping at straws to backtrack to before Tokyo Drift and to bring Letty back to life.

And they better have a good explanation for Vin's betrayal.. better not be 'mind control' or something stupid

fate.... faaate... sounds like f8 if it were a word? am i reaching too far?

It's tacky, but "clever", and it probably isn't a coincidence either.

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the title to be stylized with "F8" at a later time. Some of the previous movies like Fast and Furious 6 was titled "Furious 6" in the movie.

Movie title is beyond ghey. Or course someone Vin cares about is in harms way and he has to betray to save them. Mia would be too predictable; would be cool if it was Brazil cop chick from Fast 5 or maybe Brian had a brother that no one knew about and his real life brother makes a cameo(that would actually be pretty good). Either way, the cheesebag dialog and over the top action will make this movie very watchable; just like all the others.

Have the last couple movies been sponsored by Dodge or something, seems like that is the car of choice when they go on missions now. I get they moved beyond being ricer street racers but they could still use imports to do shit instead of a boring ass black Dodge.

Pretty much Dodge followed by a few supercars

Will probably wait for this one to hit streaming services rather than see it in person; last few F&F movies have been too superhero-y for me to watch in theatre and it doesn't sound like this one is any different.

Interesting statistics for the F & F franchise:

The Fast & Furious blockbuster franchise unfolds over nearly 14 hours so far—and that’s before an eighth movie in the $4 billion series, The Fate of the Furious, arrives in theaters on Friday. The newest film will speak in a lucrative language that audiences have learned to crave: gear shifts, engine revs, car chases, angry banter about cars, and sips of Corona. Exactly how fast and how furious is the Fast & Furious cinematic universe? The family at Bloomberg decided to meticulously analyze all seven movies to track their evolution. We counted just about everything that could be turned into a meaningful metric, even screen time for men’s biceps.

And the article lists a lot of interesting information about the franchise.

Read on here:

The rock called out Vin Diesel for his tardiness and questioned his work ethics.

Simply put it... The Rock doesn't take his shit lightly and it wouldn't surprise me that he holds each and everyone of his team accountable for all actions and will reward accordingly.

IMO this one was the worst F&F movie, barely talked about cars and went overboard with the fantasy like Mind controlled cars, Submarines etc
The Tyrese Gibson and Ludarcris characters weren't even funny.

Wonder how much budweiser paid to put their beers instead of corona.
