At auction this weekend, Acura sold the first new 2017 NSX supercar to roll out of its factory for a whopping $1.2 million.

The red supercar sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona to NASCAR tycoon Rick Hendrick.

According to Acura, all proceeds from the auction will go to a pair of charitable organizations — the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground.

"It was amazing to witness such generosity of spirit and passion for the new NSX," Acura vice president and general manager Jon Ikeda said in a statement.

"Mr. Hendrick will have the great satisfaction of owning and driving the very first next-generation NSX, and making a difference in the lives of thousands of children."

The second generation Acura NSX has been more than a decade in the making.

Fans of Acura's high-tech supercar have waited since since 2005 when the first generation ended its 15-year production run.

The hybrid 2017 NSX will be powered by a 3.5 liter, twin-turbocharged V6 assisted by a trio of electric motors to produce 573 horsepower. Acura expects the Ohio-built supercar to hit 60-mph from a standstill in about 3 seconds reach a top speed of more than 190 mph.

Acura will begin taking customer orders for the new NSX at the end of February with a starting price of $156,000.

A Honda supercar built in Ohio?
Fuck that. Honda lost a ton of reliability points by going to the US for manufacturing. You would think that their flagship vehicle would at least be built in Japan.

Plus, why the hell would a NASCAR redneck even want an NSX? Especially considering that he is a strict Chevy guy.

It's a pretty car, and I know Hendricks is a philanthropist, so maybe that's the angle?

This whole situation stinks.

It's Barrett Jackson. Just a bunch of one-percenters getting hardons for shit they CAN afford.

I don't really care for Hendrick or the NSX. But when $1.2 million goes to charity, that's always a great thing.

He has a Honda dealership; apparently it's going to be displayed there.

Lol Barret jackson.
Some fucking idiot paid 25k for a salvage title 95 m3 with 180k miles. Unrelated and Timpoesque to go off the rails in a thread about something completely irrelevant to my comment, but its a Timpo thread, so, when in Rome......

in related news, the new Ford GT will be built locally (well back East) PogChamp:chairdance:

will probably go on to be compared to the LaFerrari as the best looking car of the decade.

Just got back from Scottsdale. Spent very little time at Barrett-Jackson, what a circus. Definitely not where the smart folks go to buy a car.

I always thought Jerry Seinfeld was supposed to get the first one. Did anyone else read that somewhere?

MSRP is expected to be 160k. Seems more like a publicity stunt.

Hey, we're talking about it aren't we?

I'm sure he will get more than 1.2 million back in his pocket in no time!

Someone must currently own a Ford GT for them to qualify for the new one. My dealership has two on order. Crossed fingers to get both. We have been told Canada will be allocated only 13 for the first year of production. There is also rumor of one going to be at our autoshow but nothing confirmed yet

How can you go wrong? 1.2M to CHARITY, you dedcut value of the asset -170K USD (Which Acura would be claiming against the charity) and claim the balance as a business deduction and then sit on a car that will most likely appreciate.

It doesn't speak to the value of the car, it speaks to the value of fun and creative tax avoidance.

Would make no difference if it was 600k or 6M so long as you have sufficient business revenues to justify the need for additional write offs.

Barrett-Jackson is a place for losers who go home in their Bentleys, while winners go home with a new car and a small dent into their balance sheets.

Seriously. That's EXACTLY what's going on here. One percenters doing one percenter shit. That's how they stay one percenters. It just so happens that this car will pretty much start appreciating from when the gavel fell. Win, win even if you don't like the car at all.

Cool to see the next gen NSX become a reality considering how long it has been talked about.

It is nice to see the NSX finally make it to production, that is for sure.
