Decided to make this thread to hopefully help some of us guys out there looking for a new product to use. I have always used Got2B Glued when i had a short and spiky in the front hairstyle which held great, but i have switched hairstyles to something more like this
http://machohairstyles.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/undercut_hairstyles_for_men_15-500x500.jpg
Now, my hair is currently not that long on the top but this will sorta be the end product of what i hope to have going forward, or maybe pulled to the side a bit instead of straight back. So, now i need to find the best pomade/wax (i hear gel isnt that great for this hairstyle) that will hold my hair in place and not be so hard and flaky. Any suggestions out there? From an old thread, someone posted this as the greatest product they ever used, and it seemed many were into the Gatsby product ( http://www.amazon.ca/Mandom-Gatsby-Quick-Moving-Lotion/dp/B003ZX6T0O )

The layrite super hold is easy to wash off. Gotta use soap for the cement one.

Currently using Imperial classic pomade. Used to use layrite, but couldn't really stand the smell anymore.

Fine Cosmetics Fiber Grease. It's the ONLY pomade I've used that doesn't lose hold when I sweat, and if it does, I can wet down my hair a bit and get back in style. Strong hold (hardly any change in shape after a full workday), and smells like pineapples. 20 bucks on Amazon, but it's a while to get it shipped from Japan.

Baxter of California hard crème pomade

had a sample of it, never used it, but took it with me when I went on vacation, and loved it! bought a bottle
you've got to massage it into your hand, quite well, at first else you'll get clumps of product in your hair, once it's worked in your hair the hold is great, and you don't notice it, holds all day, and washes out with ease
their clay pomade seems to be more popular though
I don't normally use hair products (not since high school), so I can't exactly compare it with anything else nor do I know how it stacks up against other products :D

For the past year and a bit I've been using Layrite or Suavecito. Either one in just the normal hold. I also use the Layrite or Suavecito Grooming Spray to compliment either pomade.
Before that I would use Kevin Murphy Knight Rider. It's more of a paste with a firm hold but matte textured finish. It was good for the hair style I had then, which was more of a "messy" look. But with this product, you definitely need a good shampoo to wash it out.

I have the "pompadour"/combover type hairstyle too and have probably tried 10+ products over the past 2 years as my hair is very stiff and it also grows in a forward direction (that's what my hairstylist says) so it makes it very hard for it to stay slicked back. I use a combination of a wax and surprisingly, Gatsby liquid wax http://emm-a-man.com/emmaman/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/arrange-mania-gatsby.jpeg
The Gatsby liquid wax is surprisingly very very good, goes on like a gel but holds like a very strong wax and gives a very slight wet look and shine which I like. It also holds for the entire day and sometimes if I'm rushing to work and don't have time to shower it stays until the end of the next day too lol!

my cousin left me his frankengrease when he came up from the states.
it was pretty good stuff, had a citrus smell to it, much better than the plain waxy smell.
it wasnt as shiny as layrite superhold, or as matte as the cement. more like in the middle. $16 on ama, or $14 on pomadeclub

I just recently start jumping on the pomade wagon. I'm currently using Imperial (Classic Pomade) and it's not bad at all. This is my first time using pomade product to achieve the slight slick back (at an angle) so I don't have much to compare it with; my last used hair product was Gatsby wax. The pomade has a slight shine, its reallly easy to wash off. Because my hair is really "rough" I can't really control it that well. So even though the label says "strongest hold" its not doing a fantastic job at holding it.
FYI, i also decided to try Imperial as my first pomade product because you can buy it locally in Yaletown, at a store called Masc.

suavecito extra hold is crazy. i have really course hair and it works amazing
The products i'm currently using is:
Kevin Murphy Night Rider/Rough Rider (Great for fine hair as the product is thick!)
Hanz de Fuko Claymation
Crew Fiber (Easy to apply and style but doesn't hold for long)
KMS Hair play molding paste (Used this for a very long time when I used to cut my hair short)

KMS sea salt spray + OSIS+ flexwax
http://images.ulta.com/is/image/Ulta/2236776?$detail$
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/qyAAAOxyNmZTktUK/s-l300.jpg
towel dry hair, sea salt spray wet hair again, blow dry hair into shape, at this point the sea salt spray already makes ur hair somewhat keeps its shape as long as its not standing up, then apply flex wax. i find this combo to be pretty good and lasts pretty much the whole day. my biggest pet peeve with wax/clays is that if it takes more than 2 washes to wash all the wax/clay off then it is no good. hate the feeling of tacky hair some clay products leave behind even after multiple washes

had to increase the strength of product as my hair got longer (down to the chin now)
from KMS paste, Uppercut pomade, Johnny B #4 and #5, Deuxer #5 and now that D FI
hair went from side part, high and tight pulled back / pomp. I recommend blow drying, product and then hair spray.

3-4 Drops of this on damp hair + blow dry and a comb nothing else needed. It's all about pre-styling you can have the best/strongest hold wax/gel/pomade in the world but without a good shape/base to work with you're gonna end up using too much product to try and achieve the look you want and throughout the day the all that product will weigh the hair down. With product I find less is more works for my hair.

For anyone that uses Layrite, i recommend switching to Suavecito. I've used Layrite for over 2 years and switched to Suavecito almost a year ago and have noticed that it is quite similar but at a much cheaper price. Layrite holds a tad bit better but for me, the difference is negligible. Price is similar in the States but here in Canada, Layrite usually goes for $25-30 whereas Suavecito is about 18$...

Can anyone recommend anything that allows a stronger hold than any Gatsby moving rubber once dry? I've been using the pink (when hair is short) and green (when hair is long right now) to volumize and do the messy style, then lock it in place with hairspray, but I'd like to forgo the hairspray altogether if possible. I've actually never tried any clays before aside from the ones they use at the hair salons after you get a haircut and they ask if you want wax/clay :derp:
In case anyone was wondering, it's for the longer Asian messy style, not the shorter styles like a combover that I usually rock only in late summer early fall

I don't know why you guys are going with crazy expensive difficult to find stuff (unless you have allergies or want some sort of sheen, etc)
If I want my hair to be stiff, I use Alberto Fibre Wax. I got them before at Superstore. Very strong
I'm also using some really cheap Gatsby wax (bought it in Japan for $4 Canadian) for my day to day. If I need it to be stiffer, I spray a small amount of hair spray.

i always have a bald fade, pretty short and tight on top. So it is easy to style.
For the guys saying they cant get the hold, Blow dry your hair and put the product in when the hair is still has some heat. Like others have posted you do not need much when the hair is dry.

My main issue is that almost all of the waxes/pomades I've used wash out almost instantly when I sweat. The Fiber Grease I posted is water soluble, but does not dissolve against sweat. I can sweat bullets and not worry about a mop top after LOL.

20$ for a 4oz for the suavecito. Probably about the same for layrite ? But that's just a guess as I only asked them bout the suavecito.
