Hi guys,

For the upcoming 2020 track season The Speed Syndicate will be hosting track days at multiple tracks!

Our current dates are:
May 31st, 2020 - The Ridge Motorsport Park
June 21st, 2020 - Pacific Raceways
July 25th, 2020 - Area 27 (Private Event, Invite only)

The events are ran in 3 sessions per hour (20 minute per session)

The sessions are separated into 3 categories
Group A: Advanced drivers
Group B: High Intermediate
Group C: Low Intermediate / First Timers

Each group is capped at 25

Price: $275 USD
This pricing is very competitive as other organizers charge upwards of $300 USD for their event

Group A is for advanced drivers - meaning those that are experienced at the track

with experience - you also need to demonstrate you have high awareness of your surrounding

lap times are irrelevant - you can have a super fast lap time but if you cant look at your mirrors to see who's behind you then you do not belong in group A

most people make it a 2 day trip
they stay at Little Creek Hotel - if you sign up online use coupon code RIDGE or if you call in - just mention you are attending the ridge motorsport park for a discount

Snell M2005 expires later this year - Snell expires every 12 years so you will need a Snell 2010 at the minimum for the 2018 season

I usually try to make it a 3 day trip... Drive down the day before and drive back the day after. Definitely doable to make it a 2 day trip and I've done it a couple of times but it's extremely tiring for me

Trust me, I have been harassing sooooooo many of my friends this past year to get on the track. It started by showing them pics of friends who waxed out with no gear on the streets and getting them to all purchase gear. Now that most of them have bought the proper gear I have started bugging them to get onto the track. My tactic has been to show them proper gear and the track is where to push bikes not the street. So far it has been working pretty well. Several said they will be going this year but most said for the later events. I'm still hassling them to make May work.

since its super weather dependent

whereas cars - if it rains you just take it easy

however - regardless bike or cars - tracking in the rain (even if once) will grant you so much more experience and knowledge about your own car + driving skills

yep - a lot of students request for certain instructors - sometimes its like 4 people requesting for the same guy

to make it more fair - i have a chat meeting with the instructors and show them the list of students to see who would like to instruct what

some instructors are better for different platform (4wd, FF, RWD etc.) - so having them in their comfort zone translates to better teaching for the student

you may camp at the paddock for $30 USD per person

If you park at the hotel (Little Creek) they have security roaming around the parking lots quite frequently so its pretty safe

Many people usually just unload their uhaul trailer at the paddock first and then go to the Hotel or they just park at the hotel

since camping is allowed overnight at the paddock
there is someone on security duty there so you can drop it off pretty much at anytime you want - just need to show up.

just be mindful as you do not want to disturb other people who paid to camp at the paddock

however - common courtesy to let people sleep in til 7AM so you do not want to wake them up

with that being said - you can either
a) change the wheels first then get the car tech'd before 830AM (Drivers meeting)
b) bring the car to get tech'd and inform the tech inspector to check your track wheels to make sure it will pass - then change the wheels over

Hopefully everyone had a fun day yesterday with us at the ridge and a safe drive home!

Yesterday was VERY hot - lots of cars were starting to get slippery throughout the track but despite some accidents the event ran very smoothly.

It has been brought to my attention that couple of guys had some flat tires - at this time we are not sure if it was from the track or an unknown source - but I have brought this to the attention of the Ridge's Management and they are looking to see if something on the track is causing this issue.

With that being said - our next event is on June 17th, 2018

Actually I have a question about towing. Most of the participants are from the GVRD. When we sign up, it mentions at the bottom of the page that our registration includes an emergency tow, so what does that actually mean? If someone has driveline failure and cannot drive home, does that tow just get you off the track to the pits? Or to the nearest shop? Or to the border?

I just want to be better prepared I think for next time, I didn’t put much thought into it since with a new car Ford will come pick me up and take care of me.

the emergency towing is from the track to the paddock

some events dont have this feature as its an additional cost for the organizer

i do suggest getting BCAA as they provide towing from 'just outside the track' back home in Vancouver

- first track day for me, almost bone stock focus RS in group C
- started the day with the instructor learning the track, doing around 2:23 second laps
- once signed off, the fiance sat along and i was down to around 2:15 laps
- got down to 2:10 and the fiance was no longer willing to sit in, she fucking hated turn 1

that brings me to the last session of the day (for me) consistently getting faster and smoother. ended up doing a 2:08, 2:08, 2:06, 2:08, then was on pace for a 2:05 but my car disabled AWD mode as i hard braked for the corkscrew. just ended up getting too much heat into the rear e-diff i suppose. did a cool down lap and then decided to sit the last session out. i had done well, the car did very well, why push my luck.

icing on the cake, the whole track day was done on $72 cheapo chinese "Goalstar Catchpower" all season tires. they were the real MVP. definitely was getting greasy by the end of the day, but always stayed predictable and i actually kind of liked them.

I tried the Continental ECS 245/40/17 for a session, was running 2:06. Granted, I wasn't pushing it that hard because I didn't know how the tire would do. I would say I could have brought it down to 2:05 or even 2:04 if I drove on it a little harder. With my Nitto NT01 235/40/17, was running 2:03 during the day. Fastest I've gone on them was 2:02.

i try to pair based on what the instructors normally drive on the track

some are better/more familiar with RWD, FF, MR, etc.

best if they drive the same car or similar (ie. porsche owner instructing porsche guy etc.)

I'd happily read the rules/faq if I knew where it was or which set of rules. I've looked on MotosportReg and TSS x Revscene fb page. I'll also be doing some track days at Mission, but since Ridge is the more technical of the two, I'd assume Ridge superseeds any standard of Mission Raceway.

As far as I know, ECE is not recognized as an applicable helmet certification for the track days at Ridge Motorsports Park, Area 27, Mission Raceway Park, and Pacific Raceways for the times I've been there.

You would have to contact the event organizers and/or track administration to see if they'll allow ECE or FIA approved helmets to be used.

Minimum for TSS x RS days at Ridge is Snell M (SA is higher than M for cars).

Based on your experience - im pretty sure an instructor will sign you off after a session or 2 - just to show you around the ridge and give you the basics

**and im pretty sure by end of day you might move up from C to A after ride alongs to ensure you qualify to move up

Hi Folks,

This is a really cool collaboration between this community and a local vendor (who I visited today for the first time).

I've registered for Group B for the July 7 event. I have raced karts, super karts, and formula cars (all many years ago) as well as done some auto cross more recently.

I've owned my BMW Z4M Roadster for just under a year, and done one auto cross day in it. I need to do a few things to prep it for a track day - hopefully I can get these done before the event!

Is the Z4M Roadster OK to use with the factory roll bars? It is OK for many events at The Ridge, but not OK for SCCA events afaik.

Convertibles do not require a roll bar at Ridge with TSSxRS so the factory option is permitted for the events!

Some of you may have heard but today we hosted our first Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit track day.

It was a private event - mainly because it was my first time hosting and going to this track. I wanted to keep it private so I can get a lot of good feedback / criticism to improve on hosting this event before I open it up to the public.

After today I can safe to say - please expect VIMC to be within our track day rotation for 2020 or maybe even August 2019 !

As you all know - I've only been hosting at Ridge Motorsports Park for the past 6-7 years and once at Mission Raceways.

I would like to expand my portfolio and hopefully be able to bring more variety of tracks held at a high standard of organization to the public at an affordable rate. Eventually I hope we can do Pacific Raceways and Portland International Raceway

As many of you know - I do this out of hobby and to help promote the sport.

I hope to get everyones support and feedback for the many years to come!

The event is not going through due to lack of interest. Admittedly, I think it was a short notice to see how much interest we could garner but it was also a very last minute thing for kchan to put together.
