I need a new laptop for work, portability is not a big issue unless its like 18" 10lb laptops. Ive been recommended to Lenovo Thinkpad series, specifically the T450s and the T460s (newest version). I can get the T460s for around $1050 before taxes, I dont know if this is a good deal. Apple is out of the question because it cannot run some of the programs that I need to use even if I run the windows thing on it.

Im currently using a huge Toshiba from around 8 years ago so anything is pretty much an upgrade. I use my desktop mainly for everyday purposes but once in a while I need to step out to find clients.

There will be no gaming done, just possibility of youtube and HD movies here and there. I am open to all brands and types, but just have been looking at Lenovo because that's what my office uses and was recommended. Budget is around $1000, thanks!

T440s is solid in the boring categories.

I would recommend Surface Pro 4.

im using the t440s for school, got it around $1g with basic specs. Its been very solid and very lightweight too

I have a T460 at the office and I picked up a surface pro 3 for christmas.

So far I've realized the surface is all I need for work and if portability is key for you I'd say go for that.

Obviously depends on if you need to be using some heavy hitting programs. Love my SP3 :)

Keep in mind the T440s is all plastic so might feel cheap if you're anal about that.

Surface Pro 3/4 is all you need. Powerful, portable.

Another + for Lenovo T series, was gonna suggest W but saw your budget. I have a t440 for work and it has been pretty solid.

My work issued me a T540p with the i7-4600M, 180G SSD, 1920p Screen and 9 Cell battery.

It's solid as fuck. Battery life is amazing.

XPS 13" is a great notebook, our Execs use these and we deploy the T430/440/450 and soon 460's to all our road warriors.

One of my biggest pet peeves about the XPS is if you purchase the Dell D1000 or D3100 docking station, you need to have the laptop opened to power on and usage of the "docking station" doesnt even have a power button, and doesnt charge while connected via USB. In fact you require a separate power source for the laptop also. So really its just a USB dock like any other 3rd party dock. We're also having issues when going from a 4K display to 1080p where you need to restart/logout the system for those video configurations to change.

The Lenovo T series laptops come with a seamless snap in dock. It does the job right. We dont have much issues with these laptops. I myself use a Thinkpad Yoga, and its my favorite.

I recommend purchasing the onsite warranty if you haven't for either brand, whichever you choose to go with. It takes a minimum 5 days of service if you have to send the notebook to the service depot. IMO that's too long for a work notebook.

They've fixed that with the current models. They have Thunderbolt and usbc docks that charge and connect over a single cable as well as a built in power button. Still got some lingering driver issues but it's there.
