I was just beating to death the starter in my manager's old toyota camry with an scrap 2x4 to get it to finally start. The dealer quoted him $600 to replace, so he's been dragging his heels on fixing it but today it looks like it's pretty much toast.

Long time ago I used Edmonds to rebuild the starter in my old honda. I was wondering if anyone has used them recently and is their workmanship/service any good?

Guy I just sold my corolla to got a replacement alternator from them and it shit the bed within a week. Might be a one time thing or could be a sign of their workmanship.

Also consider buying a reman. Sometimes like I my case, the option is MUCH more cost-efficient.

unfortunately it has a reman. out of warranty by a few months. from lordco i think.

I used to buy rebuilds for my forklift work and ended up replacing them with brand new ones. I just got tired of the warranty work. Talk to the guys at Brighouse and they'll get you a good one. Even with 12 and 24 volt hydraulic motors, it wasn't worth it to rebuild, they would just sell me new ones.

A lot has to do with type of brushes they use in them. OEM uses their own mix for the composition of the brushes while the aftermarket guess at what the mix is. That's usually why the OEM starter lasts a lot longer than a rebuild.
