I'm always confused about this

I know more people are becoming "freelancer" but what does it mean?
How is freelancer different from self-employed individual?

For example, if you're personal trainer and have your own business, but goes to your clients place to provide the service, is that considered freelancing?
If you're computer programmer, and goes to your clients place to do the work, is that freelancing as well?
But wouldn't those things be considered as self-employed? You have your own company/business but not physical office location, which is quite typical for first time business owners.

I always wished there was an MMO that played like it... I guess that's what Star Citizen is supposed to be [if it ever comes out]?

Freelancer, self-employed, independent consultant. Same shit. It is not easy as you need to do bdev and accounting on top of whatever the heck you're doing. Lots of discipline to make good coins and hardwork but you are your own boss.

Some are successful. Most are unemployed hipsters doing useless shit to barely afford their downtown life.

Freelance is having a profession of choice, let's say photographer, and hiring yourself out or selling your work to people who will pay you for it. You can sell your work to several different people, or the highest bidder, without being on their "payroll" and being stuck to one employer. You can still run your own business name "Berzerker Photography" as well.

Berz out.

Maybe, but maybe not. Depends if they have a pimp, in which case they would be more like an employee...:awwyeah:

I image freelancing is used by professionals when they work in a structured environment but they grow some balls and try to hack the rat race.
