At Flying Wedge.....
I could have had a nice burrito, or even a Bahn Mi sandwich for less. But no, I wanted pizza, like some snivelling little turd.

It did not look like this.....

This is my line of thinking too.
They've been around for so long, they have to be doing something good. I should have known that they were struggling though. It was these only restaurant on marine in south Burnaby that didn't have a line out the door.

Speaking of doors, I hope hchang walks into a door made of dicks. Unlikely, yes. But I would also accept this.

The next sushi place was at the food court underneath sfu, but they're closing too!! I quickly ordered a small pastry with a drink at blenz. Bad choice, still hungry !

thats a weird question and an even weirder answer. saying yeast is the most important is like saying flour or water are less important. you need all the ingredients to make a proper dough.. flour, water, salt, and yeast, or at least a starter.

The best cheapest pizza in Coq.

$8.99 for regular size pizza (6 slices), and unlimited toppings!!!! Its like a subway for Pizza, you start off with what sauces, then cheese, meats and veggies. Cooked within 3-5 minutes.

Dunno why OP was failed, he's right. Flying Wedge is fucking garbage pizza. The crust sucks, it's super doughy, the types of pizza are ridiculous combinations of ingredients, and it's pricey as all hell. I've never felt good after eating there, both my stomach and having spent so much.

By the slice pizza in this town sucks. Rather, the good places are rare and out of reach.

You know when you travel somewhere, and have the food that's native to that place, and you get back home and you just can't have that food anymore? That's how I felt about New York. Even the $1 slice cheese pizza is fresh, simple, and so satisfying.

http://images1.villagevoice.com/imager/u/745xauto/7874686/joes-pizza-slice-ig.jpg

And the turnover is so high from the population density that around lunch or dinner time you'll get a slice that's less than a few minutes old, made with real italian mozzarella (NYC is much closer to Italy) and only costs a buck.

I'm with you.
The freshness of the Italian ingredients is what makes their pizza so special. Fresh ingredients are a staple of Italian cuisine. They don't do their shopping once a week like us. They're at the market every day looking for the freshest foods from their local regions. Combine that with their methods of cooking, and you have one of the only reasons to visit that shithole they call Europe. It's all about the food.

The freshness of ingredients part doesn't translate to your typical street side pizza/'fast food' type spots in Italy imo. And when I say fast food I'm not talking about some chain BS or a corner store selling pizza, actual take out restaurants. Albeit in heavy traffic areas.

Sit down restaurants had great pizza like I said, but the little quick pizza joint was garbage for the most part. This was over Pisa, the Cinque Terre, Florence, and Milan. And trust me I know good food and have a decent palate.

To each their own though, but my idea of "good" isn't 2 day old foccacia with some shriveled up tomatoes

I have to admit, we ate pizza at night in the sit down restaurants. Also, we stayed with my cousins there, so they took us to a lot of the places popular with the locals. We didn't get too many chances to eat quick pizza.

For those quick meals, it was all about the panini. A warm beer and a panini for 5 euros was a pretty good deal considering the cost of everything else in Europe.

Also, the Dutch will rip you off if you let them.
Lesson learned.

That was my favorite part of Europe. The awesome Italian food, German sausage and bier gardens, Belgian chocolate, and the McDonalds in London :lol

I'm surprised that no one has brought up Bosa foods yet. Their sandwiches are awesome, but get there before 1pm, or else the good ones are sold out.

Learned that I must try Straight Outta Brooklyn pizza. Good thread. Would visit again :)

PS - is there really "good" pizza in the lower mainland? Or are we just settling for what's available? Steveston Pizza isn't that great.

New location at Fraser and Kingsway so if you're not in downtown, there's another option for that. I had it there and thought it was pretty good.

I'm personally a huge fan of Fire Pizza on commercial.

Pizza in New York was amazing!

Personally the best pizza I've had here is actually Zaccary's Pizza on Oak, the crust is brushed with olive oil and it's airy yet crispy. Delicious!
It's too bad they only open 5 hours a day, 4 days a week. They close on all my normal days off which is a bummer lol, but you know it's good when they can close whenever the hell they want and the dude on the phone is kinda rude too but they are freakin' busy!

Pizza in Italy sucked imo. And I ate a lot of it in a lot of different spots.

I think it's just the romanticism of eating it there that gets people, I'd take some local joints over the Italian pizza any day.

I think in your case it could be personal preference or you just got the shit end of the stick and went to some bad pizza joints.

I love pasta, so every time we were eating out (which was everyday in Rome) we'd always order at least a pasta dish and a pizza. We never once had bad pizza in Rome and we ate at both restaurants and obscure hole in the wall take out places. Granted, some pizza was better than others, but we didn't have a slice where we were thought we got ripped off.

A lot of their pizzas are super simple as well. Most of the pizzas we ordered (whole pizzas at a restaurant or by the slice take out) had max 4-5 ingredients. Pizza dough, tomato sauce, cheese and then some variation of 1-2 toppings. Unlike the North American style of pizza where they try and throw everything plus the kitchen sink onto the dough, they strive for quality with their fresh ingredients. You might not have a fully loaded pizza, but the fresh quality ingredients definitely shine through with every bite.

Another great pizza place is Serious Pie in downtown Seattle (Thanks Slif!!!) that's run and owned by Tom Douglas. He's a pretty famous chef and restaurateur in the PNW. They do them in their big wood burning oven that you can see because of their open kitchen.

For those quick meals, it was all about the panini. A warm beer and a panini for 5 euros was a pretty good deal considering the cost of everything else in Europe.

Oh man, tell me about it. 5 euros for a pretty big fresh panini and another 1 euro for an espresso was our typical breakfast/lunch combo. Drink the espresso for a little jolt of energy and then we'd split the panini for breakfast and then save the other panini for lunch when we're done visiting some morning attractions.

Check out La Grotta del Formaggio if you want awesome paninis. Look at how big and fresh they are!

https://www.yelp.ca/biz/la-grotta-del-formaggio-vancouver

Another thing that we loved about Rome were the coffee bars they had setup all over the place. We saw a bunch as we got off the Rome Termini train station and then every block it seemed like there was one. Walk up and pay like 1-2 euros for an espresso and then you drink and go.

Absolutely agree. We stayed a 10 minute walk from Termini and it was lovely. People go into the coffee bars, talk for about 2 minutes, drink up their espresso and leave.

Also love how simple and delicious the pizza was. Ordering a pizza with each slice having their own different topping.

I was however fairly disappointed with the pistachio gelato all around Italy. Every place tasted more like hazelnut than anything.

The best gelato I had hands down in Europe was in Nice, I'm not a huge fan of Coconut but the coconut gelato at fenochios in Nice blew my mind

If that was a 10/10 every other ice cream/gelato I ever ate was a 7 at best

Which pizza(s) do you like from there?

Can't go wrong with most of them but my favourite is Zaccary’s Special (Spicy)
Roasted chicken, sun dried tomatoes, basil, roasted garlic, tomato sauce, chillies, and real mozzarella cheese

The guy is usually pretty rude but maybe because he's busy slammed pumping out half a dozen pizzas at a time, but one time I went while it was slow. He was just chilling there eating his dinner while he was making my take-out order. We chatted and he offered me a couple slices of the pizza he was eating while I waited, it was freakin' delicious! Too bad he said it's not on the menu because he just picked up whatever was fresh at the market that morning and baked it into a pizza. :sweetjesus:

For the basic, cheap pizza, my go to in Surrey is Non Stop Pizza. 20 bucks minimum delivery, two 3 toppings and a coke for $19.99, with six vegetarian samosas for 3 bucks to take it over the limit. Brown ingredients like paneer, tandoori/butter chicken are my favorites.

I legitimately wonder what RS' go to for cheap party/drunk as fuck pizza is...

Any Indian Pizza joint is the best ... Dave's Pizza in Coquitlam/Knight Street, Paragon on Victoria when it is fresh.

Garden Fresh is the exception ... good non-Indian pizza joint.

My go to "cheap" pizza is newton pizza in south Surrey. They got awesome combos, don't skimp out on toppings (nor go over the top) and their wings are usually pretty good (although the ones I got last night were the first bad ones I had. No sauce on em).

+1 for Newton pizza in S Surrey for cheap eats. Fed an entire kids bday party including adults with their 5 larges for $43 deal. $50 after tax.

Plus they'll throw garlic on any pizza for free, which is delicious on anything meaty IMO.

Home made dough and sauce, a little capicollo, some arugula and fresh mozzerella, in a forno oven is how I roll.

I had one of these today.

Dingey little place, in the heart (or is it rectum?) of Whalley. I walked past a 6 foot tall transvestite and a drugged out thug, but the sandwich was worth it.

either get there for the first seating or arrive at 830 onwards, i've always been lucky enough have a minimal wait for a table at that time. alternatively, order take out and eat it immediately when you step outside (i've done it :lol)
