Hello fellow revscene members.

Just wanted to introduce myself. New to these threads so hopefully I am not posting in the wrong area. My names Muzz and I am the proud new owner of a Yamaha R3 and a new rider (only been a month). Everyone says that I made a right decision by going with a 300cc bike and I feel like I have also since I am very new at riding. Anyways, just wanted to say hi to everyone and hopefully get to the know the community of riders.

Definitely a good choice to start building your riding skills. Most people grow out of it within their first season, but you learn a lot more in comparison to a bigger bike. Check out bcsportbikes.com for rides or 604motorcycles on Facebook. Be wary when you go to those rides, as they vary in riding skills depending on who you go with.

Welcome to the group. The R3 is a great bike. Anytime someone says I should get a bigger CC bike, I just mention how even professional riders start racing on smaller cc bikes first and build up their skill level.

Our scooter crew just started up BC Motorcycle community on Facebook. Lots of newer riders on this page. Great to learn group riding positions, proper hand signals and such.

Try to take a course if you can, from there it's all about riding with people with higher skills than yours and going places that push your limits. It's rarely about the bike, they all have their strengths/weaknesses.
300's are great because they can really showcase how a bike is supposed to maneuver and perform in turns and corners. Once you master the fundamental skills, the larger bikes will be even more enjoyable because you'll already be aware of their potential and what they are capable of.
More so, once you outgrow your first bike, you'll have a better understanding of what you'll want in your next bike.

That bike is terrific and will help accelerate the development of your skills MUCH faster than a larger bike! Smart move. :)

I saw your username and thread title, clicked on it praying that the post didn't say R6/R1 as your first bike. So glad you made the intelligent choice and went with the R3, a bike you can more easily grow into and hone your skills on. Welcome to the Yamaha family.:thumbs:

Update: Upgraded from a Yamaha r3 to a 2006 50th Anniversary Edition Yamaha r6. Love this bike but wow is it something. I understand why it is a safer option to start on a 300cc before upgrading to a super sport.

Na. Starting on a small bike and moving up to something bigger is pretty sensible in itself. Great choice and congrats on the new bike! R6's are awesome!
