Hey guys, not sure if this should be here or one of the tech forums.

I've got an old subwoofer that only has a physical on/off switch on the back, since I don't want it running all the time I've got it powered through a switching surge protector that switches off power to the sub when the receiver is switched off. This works perfectly, but I now want to move the sub across the room but I don't want to have an extension cord running across the room or do something ghetto like running a 120V power cord through the floor (crawlspace below).

Any suggestions on either a low-voltage solution (so I can run it under the floor) or an inexpensive 120V IR switch so I can control the sub with my Logitech remote?

Does it not have an automatic standby? Normally subwoofers have automatic standby mode if they aren't active for certain number of minutes. They awake by themselves when they detect a signal. Try it out.

It's a pretty old sub so I doubt it, but I'll give it a shot. It humms pretty good when there's no signal coming in so it's easy to check.

Since Ir requires line-of-sight to work, and most receptacles are going to be hidden behind equipment or furniture, Ir applications and solutions are going to be limited.
