For my condo in Richmond, I am just located on the 3rd floor however I spilled oil all over yesterday and its pretty messy..

Just wondering if anyone has done any flooring for their balconies, or placed rubber mats etc so that the floor isn't the concrete..

Now I am looking at alternatives for the floor as it does get annoying going out bare feet as cement has dirt/etc.. and it sticks

Just seeing if anyone has any links to products or photos of their own current layout

depending on the size of your condo... those floor tiles will become expensive...

i used those in my previous house... and omg !!! i had to go back and buy more and more boxes....

Also... check craigslist... sometimes they are better deal than ikea
JYSK also carries something similar.. and you can aks for a discount if you buy lots... i did that (richmond one)

lastly... they also fade and stain if exposed to the rain often.. :)

I only have about 80 sq /ft
So IKEA would be $250 they are pretty nice actually and I work in Richmond.
So I will most likely swing by after work and just make the purchase.

I think wood would be nice, however the grey matches the paint of the walls so not too sure about that right now..

I had some wooden ones that I bought from HomeDepot. They looked fine at first, but after 8-10+ yrs of in the sun and neglect, the wood stain/finish faded and eventually the concrete underneath stained. I tried power washing it but couldn't remove the stains.

Faux wood plastic blinds, IMO. If it's for a balcony door, I'd research if you can get vertical blind inserts.

FYI, it's easy to install and that was key. We were done in 25 minutes. It just clicks and it's done. not sure about home depot.

instead of tiles anyone ever just use an outdoor carpet or maybe even artificial turf roll if they want a feeling of 'grass' on their feet?

I'm using carpet tiles on my balcony from Canadian tire. Feels good walking on it barefoot

Looks good as well and is a cheaper option, however I already installed 56 sq ft for my balcony earlier in the week

for about $120 you can buy pressure treated decking, build a frame out of 2X4's and build it in two peices so you can easilly pick it up/move it and install it on the deck. I opted for that at my place, looks great and cheaper than those tiles

The floor decking is suitable for hard, even surfaces, like concrete, stone and wood.

throwing those on top of grass alone not a good idea as it can sag. you probably can find stone or rubber tiles that you can do that but even then you probably wanna dig it out, lay crushed rock and sand i think.

I had the Ikea wood tiles on my balcony floor for a few years..here are some of my thought.

-Works well, can DIY, probably the cheapest option for most people
-I spent around 2 hours doing the cutout for the railing post and sides, otherwise it would've been a 20 min job.
-After about 2 years with exposure to sunlight and rain, the wood will go white and start cracking. You probably want to do a recoat with deck paint/coating every 1-2 years especially if you get a lot of direct sunlight.
-The deck makes the balcony looks much nicer but it really isn't much cleaner...I lived in the city, after about 6 month, if I wipe the deck, the paper towel is all black. The shape and texture makes it very difficult to clean with a mop, so I gave up cleaning them. (I suppose it would be easy if you can get a pressure washer and use it on your balcony lol) So in the end, you can't really walk on them bare feet.


I considered doing porcelain tile too. I was going to do it myself, but if you hire someone, be prepared to pay $500+ for the labor alone.
But I checked with the condo first, and they dont' allow tiling the balcony, some rules regarding to consistent exterior appearance among all the units. The ikea stuffs can be removed in 30 min if they ever complain about it.

If I had a choice again, I would probably do those artificial grass/carpet.
I think it would feels nicer on your foot, and easier to roll up the whole thing to clean it when it gets dirty.

just go for a walk along home depot.. those wood interlocking tiles become quite expensive.. so measure and calculate how much you need. (ive done it before and miscalculated by ALOT...)

There are also rubber tiles you can get in the gardening section at HD...... i put them under my planter boxes ...
