Revscene Photo walk: Saturday June 4 2016

It's about time for us photography folks to have a photo walk! It's been about 6 years since I've been involved in one, and would be great to meet all the new photography members on Revscene!
So, it's going to be on Saturday June 4, 2016. Location, let's take suggestions. Not Granville island that's played out times 1,000. Jericho beach, white Rock, light house park, or even one of the beaches along Stanley Park, that park by UBC?
Also, time? We can do sunset, meet at 7pm so we get decent light? Members can bring some toys and we can learn from each other also!
Excited to see everyone out there!
Cheers!
Who is in? Please suggest stuff also people!

Might be interested, got a Canon 30D that's been collecting dust.
Also a newbie with no knowledge..
I am in assuming time/date works.
I think if we are looking for some decent light, we should meet up at 6:30 or so.
Sunset is usually near 9PM (8:58 today, but it's going to get later until June 20th), but the best color temp seems to fall around 7~8 (gets too cold after that). And unless we start shooting right away, the time frame is quite short.
I can bring some fancy fast glass if anyone is interested. :D But for this reason, I suggest Chinatown/Gastown.

Most likely will come if it doesn't rain. I've been itching to take my new toys out for a spin :alonehappy:

Sunset is 9:13pm on that date. I thought we could do some nice landscapes, but i would totally be down for gastown and china town too. That's dope. Drop by Milano for some coffee, hipster it up!

Of course, it's open to anyone with an interest in photography and who is willing to learn! Though, if you want to be full hipster you need to learn how to use "M" and nothing else!

I'll try to make it. I'm a total noob with an old T2i. What do we need to bring?

I think just camera, lens, memory card (assuming it's digital)and a tripod.

Seems like a decent amount of people to come out. Do we want to meet at the Steam Clock in Gas Town at 6pm and go from there? Who's going?

6pm at the steam clock in gastown :)
Next photomeet, in about 6 years! LOL
I think I can make it.
But where the hell can we park in Gastown without breaking the bank?
What's everyone plan on gear?
I'm thinking Sony A7II with a fast 35mm/50mm+tripod to stay on the light side. Probably also adding an ND filter as weather seems to dictate a very good day (hence a lot of light during the time of meet)
Speed2K

I might take the bus or train down.
I don't have any fancy equipment. I'll bring my tripod along with my old Canon T2i with Tamron 17-50 f2.8 lens. Not sure if I should bother bringing my do it all travel lens, a Sigma 18-250.

Well about 3 generations of new technology... bring the t5i if you have the option
I should be able to make it down, not sure if I am gonna drive or transit

Anyone in New West/Burnaby wants to carpool and share the parking?

I will bring my 5d3 body and a few lenses and some Lee filters and maybe ND filters if I can find them also. Let's have some fun boys and, assuming no girls!

I've got a free parking spot close to waterfront if someone is around the poco area.
Again, this is if I'm able to make it for 6pm

Sounds good to me, transit is great. I'll be driving, don't know where i'll be coming from but I can most likely give some rides back to Richmond if anyone is interested afterwards.
Just so everyone knows, i'm not the all knowing photographer (I do know a bit of stuff though) and don't have a plan or route for this photo-walk. Just want to meet up with some people and have some fun shooting and learning from each other.
I was thinking maybe we could have a friendly best photo competition from today? We can make a post in the Off Topic forum and get all of Revscene to vote, without knowing who took the picture with what equipment. Winner gets, bragging rights! Cool? People can submit to me their favorite image, and i'll post up and do all the work.

Thanks for all the people that helped teach, and all the good students of photography also. It's cool to share some tricks with people that want to get better at something. Would love to meet up again soon, or if anyone wants to take some snaps let me know, i'm pretty down.
Looking forward to seeing some posted shots from tonight!

There was talks about doing some kind of studio rental as a group, since apparently not everyone liked the walk part of the photo walk
Bill send me a link for one thats pretty cheap, I think we should set something up. Everyone pitches in $15-20 and we get a model or two to show up. Learn about off camera flash and studio lights

The problem with studio is lighting. We can't use flash as only 1 camera can be commanding, and for continuous, it would mean we have to coordinate an output level suitable for everyone.
I like the idea of a model/subject, but I guess again it would mean 10 monkeys shooting at the same thing from different angles.
What I think it would be good is to organize a photo drive next time. There are some incredible sceneries just 20-30min drive from Van.
In short, we should come up with a topic/center theme for next walk instead of just random shooting on the street. This way, we can coordinate better, less walking and more shooting.

Either plan sounds good to me! If we drive somewhere, can someone teach me how to take rolling shots? :fullofwin:

I was thinking more of a take turns kinda thing. Like say we set up some lighting and go through how everything works, learn about sync speed, learn about light output/aperture, do some practice shots of each other. Then bring in a model and everyone takes 10 minutes to get some good usable shots, everyone can use the same settings and just swap the flash trigger around.
