I am searching for a camcorder that can record decent clear video. I just returned my canon hf r600, the picture was very distorted and grainy. Watching some videos on youtube, seems like sony cx405 and up perform much better.

Anyone good with camcorders and cameras? I am currently looking at sony cx line up but not sure. Any other recommendations would be great. Doesnt need to be the newest camera. Thanks

I think a camera recommendation will be easier once you show us who you're trying to record at night.

Depends on how long you want to record for.. most cameras are limited to 30 minutes because of the stupid Japanese tax.. which considers cameras as video recorders hence tax more.

If you use a camera to do that job make sure the camera can support 3rd party hacks that can get around it.

A DSLR will be better at capturing low light due to the larger sensor.

Actually a camera with a ccd should take dark videos better than your standard cmos based camera.

Why not just add lighting?

Didn't really mention a budget, but the Sony A7s is super in low light. Can be found on the used market for a decent price also.

The Sony a7S is definitely in the list and possibly best choice.
I would look at these 2 as well.
Panasonic GH4 Least Expensive
Canon 5D MK III Best Lens selection.
