: Low Profile Car Jack Stolen

On the weekend, I came home around dinner time and my dad asked me why the black circular resting piece for the low profile car jack was wedged between my garage door and ground, with the door closed.

I look around "what the hell, my car floor jack missing".

Someone somehow managed to open my garage door, steal it and close the garage door. But I am still puzzled how this all even happened??! There is no signs of forced entry anywhere, all the gates are locked which require a key to access.

I ain't no IT expert, is it possible someone driving/walking around with a RF recording device capturing people's RF signals and then saving them and then coming back to open my garage door??

Most garage door receivers use rolling codes don't they?

I had this happen to me a few years ago, thieves some how got my garage door open and took a set of steelies. No forced entry found. The shitty thing is I was home at the time as well.

After that, I put a kill switch for the garage door. When I'm home, I engage the switch so that there's no power to the door so it can not be opened. It doesn't help if I'm out, but it's better than nothing. The only thing worse than getting something stolen is when you're at home while it happens.

Most newer ones do, but older ones aren't and its super easy to gain access.

Mines is 2007 year, not sure if that is considered old model?

Nah that should be rolling code, my old home built in early 90s had set codes.

Or they took a coat hanger and pulled the release from the outside

Would it be possible they stuck say a crowbar and wedged it underneath the garage door and lifted it up?

$5 for a ziptie lol.

Anyways, yeah, that's what I did. If there's a blackout, I just cut it and use the side locks.

SMH fucking thieves.

Your jack will end up being recovered underneath someones car that they jacked the wheels off of.

I know :(

My winter wheels were wrapped in black garbage bags and nothing there was touched. I guess can't use "logical sense" to think what these fuckers are thinking. Maybe the floor jack was that special LOL

lol, I couldn't wedge my zip tie through the top hole so I just made my own "shield"

Should be ok...

Smaller ziptie through the spring holes.

It looks like the tape isn't shielding it properly? It looks like there's still a gap for the thieves to hook onto. You should tape it up to at least cover that small hole, that way it will prevent any hooking of the mechanism. Or as fliptuner said get a smaller zip tie.

If you can't get a zip tie through there just get some tie wire or even string and pass it through the two spring holes.

All you have to do is make it so that something with the strength of a coat hanger can't pull the latch down. Most things they could get in there wouldn't be able to exert much force on that mechanism, so even a piece of string should hold it well enough.

Oh and buy a security cam for outside your garage (even a fake one usually will work).

That's a piece of cardboard with packaging tape, but kind of hard to see the clear tape. I can't remember if that small hole was covered, but I don't think hooking a wire through that hole does anything. It's not part of the latch.

I think it should work, but I can also use a wire or string just to be extra safe.

I'll never understand thieves stealing car jacks. It's only weighs 60+lbs so you'll waste energy stealing only one heavy ass jack and lugging to wherever the hell you're gonna stash or sell it.

thieves love floor jacks. bring a few cinderblocks or similar and jack up one side to get both wheels off the ground and throw the blocks underneath and repeat for the other side. zero fucks given as to where the jack is being used in the proper jacking point because it's not their car that they are damaging. if you are using a portable impact gun (possibly stolen as well like the jack was), a thief can be done within a very short time with zero expense.

Totally forgot about that. If he's a pro thief just to steal a car jack to steal from other cars....the criminal life.

It's nice to still be using a wood garage door, heavy AF, also a bolt in the rails prevents the door from going up, the bolt doesn't help if you need constant access through your door tho

^ I'm sure you could replace the bolt with something electric that you could trigger with an extra remote.
