Where I live, the city trees produce a lot of honeydew or sap or whatever it is. If I leave my car for more than a day, it is absolutely coated. I literally have to yank my windshield wipers free of the windshield before i can use them. The back window is basically useless (looks like stained glass it's so coated, and I can't see out of it) and I have to hose the car down every damn day. After a day, the paint on the car feels really sticky and scaly.
I've called the city, neighbours have called the city, and they come spray the trees with some big canon thing that shoots some kind of liquid on them, but it does nothing, really.

Problem is it's ruining paint, and it legitimately is a driving hazard to obscure my windshield and windows so much with that sap or whatever it is. And when the inevitable water restrictions are in place, it now becomes a bylaw violation to clear my windows and clean off my paint.

Anybody else had to deal with this? Is there a way for the city to do anything more permanent in fixing this issue or am I wasting my time? They're trees on city boulevard property in Vancouver.

Sadly, no. Parking is pretty tight and the only place to park is on the street under the trees. It kind of sucks to clean the car up all nice and then have it ruined by the trees.

i thought someone mentioned to me that if it's really bad you can call the city and they will actually come spray the tree with some kind of solution which stops this?

I bought this for one of my cars for frost in the winter. Worked well. Perhaps you can use it in your situation. Although, sap would probably turn the cover into shit........

It's a sugar water from bugs that live on the tree. I have them all down my street which the city has been dealing with for the past 6 years and thankfully this year I haven't had the issue yet (knock on wood)

Sadly, it's a pain in the ass to wash the car every single day. Especially when you park under it again.

The city has sprayed the trees, it does little, if anything.

Cut a cardboard box to the size of your windshield and put it on the car while parked.
Or get car cover from canadiantire

Hosing it off with water does little in my experience. I spray my car with a bit of soap before rinsing. I am using the Mr Clean Auto Dry gun with regular car soap; it takes like 2 minutes.
