BMW 1 Series sedan debuts, but is only for China (http://www.rushlane.com/bmw-1-series-sedan-debuts-china-12200977.html)

New BMW 1 Series sedan is based on the concept compact sedan which they showcased last year.

BMW’s smallest ever sedan, 1 Series made its global debut today. Designed, built and engineered in China, in association with their local partner, the new 1 Series sedan will only be on sale in China.

BMW Brilliance Automotive has kept the design of 1 Series sedan true to BMW’s modern day design language of their larger sedans. The kidney-grille, contoured headlamp cluster, aggressive bumper, creases on the bonnet, shoulder lines on the sides. What stands out in the picture they released, is that one odd little thing, the ORVM. It would have been much nicer if it was in the same exterior colour, and not plain black.

What powers the BMW 1 Series is still under wraps. But sources in Chinese media reveal that under the hood 1 Series sedan will feature new range of 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder turbo-diesel and petrol engines.

Like other new generation BMW cars (X1, 2 Series), the 1 Series sedan is also believed to have been built on the UKL1 platform. This means that the 1 Series sedan will be offered in front wheel drive or All wheel drive configurations. No rear wheel drive variant will be offered.

New BMW 1 Series is the fifth car of the company which will be produced in China.

I'm surprised BMW didn't do this in-house, and released the car to the world market, but has decided to do so in the Mainland Chinese market. Any reason and concerns for or against the release of such a car should be similar between the Chinese and RoW markets, so I would have expected a unified approach to be more sensible.

Oh that looks nice. I wish the hatch version had shorter/wider tail lights like the sedan.. and that both make it's way over to the NA market
