Japan will be the first country to approve mirrorless cars.

can't remember the last time I struggled with poor visibility from the mirrors...ok maybe with the exception of jacked pickups with HID in reflector bowls tailing my ass
i doubt the significant aero gains on econoboxes from going mirrorless

time will tell if i'm just a luddite...for now it's just another simple thing that doesn't need fixing in road cars.

Might as well build windowless cars for China.

No change in the number of accidents.

Smart IMO, if you look up the studies done on aerodynamics/drag from side mirrors. Most of them tell you that removing side mirrors improves fuel economy 3-6%. It's small, but don't forget it also translates to other smaller differences like quicker acceleration and less requirement on the engine for weight/drag.

With the technology we have nowadays, I am sure the cost of cameras is cheaper than the cost of a painted side mirror.

Repairs would likely be cheaper too, think of the cost of buying a backup camera ($10-$100) vs. the cost of mirror/ frame / and painting. ($100-$300)
