on the 15th this month the minimum wage becomes $10.85. What are your thoughts, also if your employer do not increase your wage or take a long time to transition into doing so will you confront your employer?

Makes no difference to me since I'm already ballin' @ $14/hr.

this thread is irrelevant for rs - we are all six figured model slaying tycoons. oh no wait, this does affect me as i will now have to pay my surfs more. that's fine. i'm up 500% YTD trading options.

I make the equivalent of CAD$4.60/hr where I live. I wish I was back in Canada.

yeah it does.

You used to make $3.75/hr over minimum wage.
Now you make $3.15/hr over minimum wage.

and I thought they wanted to make minimum wage up to $15/hr?

Why do people work for minimum wage?

Is it because they're lazy? Can't compare ratio for work:wage? Not ambitious?

And what are some types of minimum wage jobs?

working for minimum wage =/= lack of ambition or laziness.

the system is designed for the min wage jobs to be the easiest to get and the most plentiful. good paying jobs are hard to get even if you're qualified, so a lot of people end up being underemployed.

Since it's Thursday anyone remember when min wage was $6.00/hr LOL

working for minimum wage =/= lack of ambition or laziness.

Or mental illness, or childhood abuse, or coming from underprivileged backgrounds with alcoholic teen parents

Are you seriously asking about this?

I don't know about you, but people work for minimum wage to get experience, or maybe as a teenager that's the only job you can get.

I have never heard of a teenage kid getting a $100,000+ salary right off the bat. (Obviously there are exceptions but that's very unlikely for most cases)

If you ask all the CEOs, celebrities, high level politicians, investors, doctors, lawyers, professors, engineers... chances are, they probably started at a minimum wage job somewhere.

Honestly, kids working at Mcdonald's for minimum wage work harder and deal with more shit than I do for 1/3 the money. How much you get paid =/= how hardworking or lazy you are.

Has nothing to do with work ethic. It's purely about replacement cost. Fast food companies have spent years mastering the art of simplifying tasks. You can easily hire and train someone to work the entry level jobs at McDonalds in one day.

Minimum wage is somthing for pimply faced teenagers to gain experience/life skills with, it's not a living wage.

Literally -any- job in construction pays more than minimum. And it's not back breaking Labour either. Most temporary Labour crack heads who have to do nothing more than push a broom or vaccum are making $15+

In my entire working career from 15 years old on, I've never once worked for minimum wage. It may have only been 50 cents to a dollar more than minimum but I've never even been offered a minimum wage job, and those early jobs are all in different fields at different places.

I don't care about minimum wage, I don't care about anything.

Ever since they took the fail button away I have nothing to live for.

a 50 cents increase is reasonable, but 5 dollars is just too much to put through the employers. I do not wishes this to pass for my employers I might lose hours or even get terminated.

That's going to change soon. Machines will replace them. Some guy in the states already does does. From cooking to delivery food is all done by robots.
