Fall is already here and I want to prepare for the winter season. Anyone have any good references for furnace/duct cleaning? This will also be my first time getting this service, anything that I should be look out for and estimated cost?

I usually just DIY it, though it obviously wont be as thorough. Replace the filter with a high quality one (they should be replaced fairly often anyway) and pull the registers and vacuum inside as far as I can go. I have central a/c, so it's running almost every day.

If you're going to go for a professional, it might be worth the added cost to see how efficiently it's running and how much air loss you're getting from between the furnace itself and the registers at the highest point of the house.
