Now that the assault has been settled, the question that came up in my mind is -- if any of us was there during the attack, what would you have done?
Honestly speaking, I know that my useless 18 year old self would probably be quite shaken, and try to approach the situation while remaining at a safe distance to better see what is happening, and then probably just call the cops / campus security or something.
If it is the me right now seeing something like this, I would probably try to provide some more active help than my useless 18 year old self. But how much more will I actually do is not something I can say for sure until I am actually thrown into a situation like that...

Yeah. If they saw the knife, I would guessed they probably would have second guessed themselves or be a bit more hesistant in jumping in right away.
I've actually trained with one of the UBC students once that helped apprehend the Saudi kid.

I would call 911 and make some noise to alert others while be prepared to run away like a little bitch because I would probably not be in the right mind to apprehend a knife-wielding crazy. I mean if you don't know what you're doing, you could get stabbed in the wrong place then shit is fucked.

Bodyguards are trained to overpower & learn knife re-flexion...but first thing 1st they say if the attacker has a knife,be prepared to be cut..

from what I heard, it was more of a superficial cut, the victim's throat/major artery wasn't slit nor was it hemorrhaging blood. The attacker could not overpower the victim and was stopped by the two samaritans.
All joking aside, knife attacks are vicious:

Why? There's no pancakes involved...........
as for the attacker........... pic looks about right. He couldn't overpower the victim. She probably rejected him, 'cause he couldn't protect her from a rabbit attack.

Many of the 9/11 "muscle" hijackers weren't physically imposing but they had the element of surprise, determination, and training to be deadly.
Given this guy's country of origin and cultural/religious background, I am more inclined to think his actions were a result of that background, than someone butthurt over rejection and pushed to insanity.

You took my comment as saying this guy is a terrorist? You made that connection, not me. I merely brought up the 9/11 hijackers to point out that a lack of size can be made up for in motivation and an element of surprise on an unsuspecting person. If you had read the previous posts to mine, you would have seen that his lack of size was being discussed.
This guy comes from a country/culture/religion which does not see women as equals. A religious text which tells followers to enslave/kill infidels. When coming from that background, I can understand why he might see his actions as acceptable, because they might just be seen as such back home.

that's the most idiotic thing I've heard. Just because he's Arabic you assume he's used to beating women?
I'm Chinese, does that automatically make me a Kung Fu master, my dad a corrupt government official, and I prefer public streets to relieve myself rather than a washroom?

To my knowledge, there is no evidence of mental health problems in his past. To my knowledge, there is no evidence of him holding opinions which go against the norms of his home country and culture. To my knowledge, he is not an apostate of the prevalent religion of his home country. Therefore, without any other evidence to suggest otherwise, I would say he is likely a product of the environment he grew up in and acted accordingly. He may have temporarily forgotten or was possibly unaware that women, especially infidels, are not viewed the same here as in his home country. He cut a girl's throat after being rejected, how used to that behaviour does he have to be before you are willing to draw conclusions? Or are we so adamant about being Politically Correct that we must ignore facts and defend Islam and Saudi Arabia's treatment of women?
Strictly speaking to make a point from your examples: Are you a Chinese national, here temporarily as a student or on business, not having had much time to grow accustom to Canadian life? If not, then it is a little difficult to make the comparison. If you are, is Kung Fu embedded heavily into Chinese culture? Is it mandatory to know Kung Fu in China? Have you then demonstrated the abilities of a Kung Fu master? Say you came to Canada and demonstrated mastered Kung Fu, and I had no other evidence to suggest how you became a master of Kung Fu. Would it not be possible for me to draw conclusions that you are a Kung Fu master and that you likely learned these skills because you grew up in a culture where Kung Fu is part of many aspects of the way of life of China?

Who did I defend? Criticizing one side of an argument does not mean I endorse the other. Much like this Trump vs Hillary crap. People who criticize Hillary do not necessarily support Trump. There are many people who dislike both candidates. Rejecting one candidate does not mean one should just blindly support the opposing candidate. That is idiotic.

Is it your belief that the theocratic state of Saudi Arabia and the religion of Islam treat women as equals?
I admit the 9/11 example was not the best choice. It was the first one that came to mind which I thought demonstrated that a small unimposing figure can still be a physical threat under the right circumstances. I was not trying to imply he is a terrorist.

One does not need to walk on the surface of the sun to know it is hot. The evidence of inequality in Saudi Arabia is well documented by international organizations. The evidence of people being a product of their environment/upbringing is well researched and supported in the scientific community. Making a connection between these two, when no other evidence to suggest otherwise has been presented, is possible.
Is the inequality of women a part of Canadian culture or law? Skin colour has nothing to do with it. Islam is not a race.

And yet 12 men of good reputation have walked on the moon and brought back samples of its composition for geologists and scientists to examine. They then shared their findings with the world so the billions of people on earth have this knowledge without ever having been there.

I can see Bouncing Bettys point, about how people raised in an islamic culture might be unequal to women. Although, most of the people that I've met that come to Canada are pretty nice to their female counter parts. That could be that they were smart and reasonable enough to pass immigration screenings. Anyone who's been in a mosque will know that Islam is inherently sexist. At one point, Christianity was like that too, well the super old kind. Back when the days women belonged in the kitchen. lol
Anyone remember that Egyptian video of those boys commenting on how they are raised to treat women?

This woman was raised in culture that does not respect the elderly. It's well documented in many medical journals that in this culture, elderly people are being forgotten in rest homes, abused by their children, scammed by people over the phone, etc. It's clear this woman's actions are the result of her sick culture and their disrespect for senior citizens. This bouncing dude... You needs to stop. What you are doing is called racial profiling. The kind of shit that encourage law enforcement to target people based on their ethnicity. This is vastly inaccurate and extremely wrong. You are labeling a human being based on where he/she comes from and rationalize his action as a result of his origin, which is what Trump and sadly a very large portion of the US is calling for, which is vastly ignorant. All Saudi Arabian or Middle Easterners are not potential throat slicer or terrorist. Don't even try to put lipstick on a pig calling it "product of the environment" BS.
