Kind of a double edged sword, similar to the PS4/Xboxone architecture and you might lose backwards compatibility, but it makes it easier on 3rd party devs.

All they have to really do is update their Virtual Consoles and should be able to run the older games. Not sure about the Wii U.

I like the idea of having home console quality games on the go. I hate mobile games because touch screen controls suck, and the DS doesn't have home console graphics.

Wii was $275 and Wii U was $300 at launch. But back then, our dollar was at par. If you take that into account, it's about the same.

But you're right, $400 is pretty rough in the pocket when compared to other consoles. The XBOX One S was $300 and the PS4 was $330 during Black Friday.

Wii U was a total failure. I don't like thinking in CAD, but this is a Canadian site so I used that. Using USD $300 is still very high for a 720P console, even if it has portability. 2.5 hour battery life really limits that portability, and there are maybe 2 good looking games for it. if this had better battery life and the latest nvidia GPU I think it could replace DS...but from the looks of it'll only do slightly better than Wii U and might just be Nintendo's last home console. The 30+ demographic can only play Mario and Zelda so many times and the nostalgia will run out. Most kids would rather play Madden and Call of Duty on a Microsoft/Sony.

Except they don't seem to realize what the market wants. The NX is cool and all, but unless they can get great third party support it'll be another flop after the initial hype dies down. Especially at that price. The battery life is poor enough that people will probably not even use the feature after a few plays, so it's just another Nintendo console with a few great first party games and nothing else.

I'm really curious about the tablet abilities of the Switch. Is it going to have a decent web browser? There's been raves about the parental controls. It could be a good alternative to an ipad mini or small android tab.

For history, the 3DS started off at $249 USD when it debuted in March 2011. Sales were lukewarm. The MSRP was slashed 4 months later to $169 USD, and that's when things started to take off. We could see something like this happening for the switch. I know that's when I'll be ready buy :). I'll probably end up spending a crapload of money buying future iterations and limited editions, like I did with the 3DS. :P

Canada and Japan use the same voltage, and Nintendo has confirmed that there will be no region locking, so I'd say yes it would be fine.

I'm not sure if you could change the system language or anything like that though, we'll have to wait and see

Don't bother trying, they're sold out everywhere around the lower mainland. Honestly I'd just wait a bit, the only game out at the moment is Zelda, and if you're dying to play it I guess it's worth to get it, otherwise might as well just wait for more flagships to come out.

You can pretty much do it for any kind of amiibo.

Once the information is written to the tag, it's basically the same as a real life amiibo except you can't write to it to store save information and stuff like that.

EDIT: I am wrong, seems like you can even write to it like a normal amiibo, but only the parts meant to be user-writable.

Controls are almost everything to me. They almost matter more than story and graphics Imo. Dosnt matter how good the rest of the game is if you can't play it. I found this true of the last of us also. Such an amazing game but I was often to frusterated with the controls to appreciate the rest

I took so much precaution and still ended up with that crack. I play handheld sometimes but mainly docked via a USB-C extension cable so the dock doesn't scratch the tablet. I'm so delicate with this console too. Luck of the draw I guess. Might report this to Nintendo to see if they can replace it under warranty.

GF bought this one and it's worked well so far. The only complaint is that the elastic bands sometimes get caught in the joysticks as we're removing the switch from the case, but I'd rather it get caught then run the risk of the switch falling out so easily.

kinda crappy there isn't any hard shell cases with a closed clip....my vita has it and i never worry about it.

this week was the big shipment from nintendo.. Amazon had stocks almost every other day (and of course it kept selling out) the stock tracker site was having hard time keeping up if you read the comments

and if you go to the EB website and check the stock inventory for all the stores in lower mainland most of them were colored green. phoned a bunch of stores and said they got them early in the week but wasnt allowed to sell them until fri (today) and some stores got at least 20 or so..

my first impressions...the ergonomic sucks (undocked with joy-cons attached)
too thin, too wide, they could've done without the 2cm-wide horizontal bezels

I really like that they went with USB-C though

i can see nintendo releasing an updated version next year with a 7 inch screen as oppose to 6.2 without having to increase the dimensions because the bezels so thick

fuck even the neon color joy cons are sold out.. i got the grey edition because it was easier to find...

First time using the joy cons with the trigger attachment... nearly got mine stuck cause I forced it in the wrong way... even after hearing and seeing countless people getting theirs stuck I still managed to do the same thing -.-
