Best rice cooker deal I've come across was one from Costco in the US. It was on sale for 60 bucks US, and when our dollar was hovering at the 85 to 90 cent range. It was a Zojirushi. Small, but it was 1000% better than the old (I mean 30+ years old) Panasonic I had. Went from one button, no features rice cooker to this fuzzy logic, everything but wash the rice for you, rice cooker. I think my Panasonic would have lasted another 50 years as it is sturdy......... still have it and in working order.

TVs can be bought off Amazon or Costco. Vizio is probably the best value.

Furniture is a bit tougher as I find you actually need to touch and feel it before making a decision. If you want modern furniture that is of decent quality, I would suggest Urban Barn. They usually run promos all through the holidays. When you're back in town, the best bet is to hit the Urban Barn outlet in Port Coquitlam. You can sometimes get double discounts on floor models or out of season pieces.

If you have a larger budget, you can't go wrong with the Restoration Hardware outlet in South Surrey.

I bought a pair of head running gloves from Costco in September. They were pretty warm and claimed to be windproof. Slim enough and worked pretty good with touch screens and my phone. But it hasn't gotten cold enough to the point where i'd use em.

For the most part in the last few years I've been using my ghetto dollar store gloves and they're warm enough. In the LM anyway.

The newer asus rog has thunderbolt 3 over usb-c which means you can hook it up to external graphics (rog station 2 or other solutions made by gigabyte, razer, alienware etc) and game at home.

Two options,

-get one with the weakest internal graphics and spend that towards an external graphics card.

-get one with good graphics card built in for graphics power on the go. The GTX graphics cards on the ROG laptops are the same as the desktop counterparts.

Its not cheaper for sure but you can still get desktop performance.

5Ghz would give you greater bandwidth but less range. If the signal is spotty as is (and assuming it's on 2.4Ghz), it'll probably be worse with the 5Ghz. Maybe consider some sort of Wifi extender to increase your range (however this does cut into your bandwidth) or if you actually have a ethernet port in the same room, then maybe this for the CC:

used to try and use it to stream NHL games before i got cable back, quality was always garbage and the signal super sketchy.

The modem was in the same room as the chromecast as well, so if it was getting fed from PC-Modem-Chromecast, thats an even greater enditement to the product. imo not worth it unless it's in the same room

If you're using the garbage stock Shaw/Telus combo units, get a separate modem and a good router. It helps a lot with the Chromecast, especially if you get a unit that has good MIMO.

I had an ASUS RT-N66, and I got good signal going through ~30ft of wall, floor and another wall as the Chromecast was in the diagonal opposite end of the house from my router.

They told me straight away, and were telling people all day that they couldn't do it if I was a current customer. And then they told me I had to call Virgin. So I did. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Then finally got through to someone..only for them to tell me the same thing.

I argued and argued...They said I could get it, but would need a new activation aka new phone number, which of course I can't do.

So then I said: So if I were to sign up with anyone else, then cancel it immediately, then come back to Virgin, it would count as a new activation. So I said, save me the trouble of doing all that and just give me the deal. She said, she saw my point, but still wouldn't do it.

I asked to speak to her supervisor, at which point she put me on hold AGAIN and after another 20 min I gave up. Ugh, so exhausting. What assholes.

I bought last years version of this laptop for our business. (so processor was an i5-4210U behind) Decent laptop and for $499 it's tough to beat. (I bought it for $599 last year during Black Friday) You won't find a FHD screen on a laptop at this price with 8GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive.

The HD on my unit was sluggish though. Could use an SSD upgrade if you're going to be using this for day to day duties. However, my perception is probably skewed from using SSD based machines regularly and not used to a platter based hard drive. Build quality is so-so - it certainly doesn't scream premium - lots of plastic but it's expected at this price. It's a glossy screen (because it's touch screen) if that makes a difference.

I think it's a good deal if you're looking for a decent spec machine for basic tasks. I don't think you'll find much out there that beats the specs on this machine for the price.

Keep in mind that he downsized from a big house with a built-in-vacuum system, to a small apartment with this handheld vacuum.

Well, I'm going from a 15+ year old corded entry level bag vacuum, that barely has any suction, is hard to find bags for, the attachments fall off all the time etc etc, to this one. Right now it takes me 10-15 min to vacuum my whole place. I have a 1 bedroom apartment, hardwood and lino and a few rugs. I love the small size and the fact that it's cordless and lightweight. The ability to take it downstairs to my car for a quick cleanup is a huge plus. I don't really care about the button thing as my place is so small. I have a feeling it will be just fine, especially what I'm coming from.

Also, Dyson keeps coming out with more powerful, longer lasting versions. Your dad might have an older version.

And also, I just noticed that the price has gone up to $299USD from $239USD within a couple hours of my original purchase/post. Felt like I got a deal :awwyeah:
