I'm in the market for one, and seriously considering picking one up. One thing I noticed is that the prices don't drop much at all, even for older 2009 2010 used ones at 75-80k?

Anyone with RS have one that could chime in on reliability, insurance, fuel, maintenance fees etc? Does anyone daily drive one year round? Thanks in advance

Reason for the prices not dropping is because Nissan keeps jacking up the prices. MRSP is double of what it was when it launched.

I don't own one, but the transmission on earlier models require replacement - just a matter of when.

Just keep saving money for the R36.
Apparently it'll be a ridiculously fast hybrid sportscar.

The R35 GT-R won't even come close.

Also when R36 goes on sale, the value for R35 might go lower.

you get what you pay.


there are cheap ones out there, but they can be a bit problematic, especially if they were modified at one point.

if you pay top dollar for a unmolested, older example, it'll be a rewarding ownership experience.


This is based on seeing the used GT-R's that we've sold.

The maintenance costs are relatively low for a "supercar" territory or performance. But 80 to 90k is still alot to drop on a car. Insurance costs will also be quite high depending on how much discount you have.

Why not get a dedicated track car (s2k, itr, m3, etc) and get a nice daily driver (ISF, c63, s4)

I've done my fair share of import tuning in my younger days. Now that I'm older, I just want something that is fast, driveable, yet not obnoxious without the relatively heavy maintenance costs. I did think about building a track dedicated car but I think those days are behind me with work, family, life priorities. I would drive the GTR in the summer and DD my TL during the winter times.

Besides the GTR, any other cars you guys would recommend that are within the budget and can possess the best overall fun factor in ownership? I tend to stay away from euro, as Ive had an e46 m3 before and the reliability scared me

If a M3 scared you off on reliability. my vote goes to LEXUS IS-F.

In general, they are more reliable than the similarly priced competitors

Having been in the market for an IS-F up til about 2 months ago, it was rare to find anything newer than 2011 that didn't have over 70k KMs. If I remember right, that would still cost around high 40s into low 50s for price.

I checked on Autotrader and Craiglist back then.

That gen IS is also cramped, IMO. Even the front.

Couple months ago i was on HWY1 and a white GTR with SUPERMAN on LP drove by in the HOV lane like i was standing still. 200KMPH at least! I don't remember ever seeing something drive so fast before on a HWY. No other cars were around him i will say.

After driving a friend's around for a bit I find the interior a little claustrophobic. But not for a second do I doubt the reliability.

I'm in my mid 30s and after years of budgeting, saving and making sure my family has what they need, I can budget around 90k for a car. But I don't know if there is anything within this range that offers all of the same features that the GTR has.

I am a huge fan of the new NSX, but that price range is out of my league and I do not want to finance one. Porsche 911 turbo was also a consideration as I've never had one, but I have heard horrible things for reliability wise.

Porsche 997.1 Turbo seems to be a little out of your price range. If you are live with 996 headlight, maybe a 996 Turbo and save $20k to mod it?

996TT or 997.1TT Mezger engine is pretty bulletproof, dodged from famous IMS and RMS issue from M96 engine.

Here is an example 996TT last over 500,000 miles, original clutch last over 370,000 miles.
