Looking for some "budget performance" tires. I know those two words don't always go hand in hand but PSS too rich for my blood. So looking at some bf g-force comp-2 or continental extremecontact dw or dws. Some decent deals in the US with black friday, but with our dollar and customs I wonder if you guys know whether its often cheaper to buy from US or canada?

Don't buy them performance tires just yet. Wait until the Feb / March window when the new Conti Sport and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S come out.

If you absolutely need tires now, consider the Firestone Indy 500. It's a rebranded Bridgestone RE003 that is very affordable. I briefly drove them on track earlier this month (or maybe it was last month), and thought they were roughly on par as the Conti DW, but with a better sidewall.

I think buying tires within the US is not a big deal. I've done it before (ship it to my po box) and customs never gave me any hassles. Just be honest and bring the invoice. Sometimes they don't charge duties. Sometimes they do. Depends on the officer I guess. If you bring more people with you that helps lol

I was just shopping for some continental dw tires since those are the best for your buck and don't compromise safety or quality. I budgeted with tirerack and it seemed the best deal

Costco or DriveHard. Costco doesn't have a deep selection but if they've got what you want it's always a good deal.

Tirerack can be a little bit cheaper if you're willing to pickup at Point Roberts but it's just not worth the hassle for me.

I've traditionally always went to Discount Tire because of the after sale service they offer. However, they typically do not work with spacers and some stores require you to remove your spacers prior to bringing your car over for any work.

I know the Bellingham Discount Tire just got a new store manager that goes by the book in regards to spacers, so I won't be going back there for tires anymore. That and the fact that it doesn't really make sense financially to buy tires in the US based on the exchange rate

I've had good experiences with both Costco and Drivehard. I generally recommend Costco to friends that ask, but drivehard has good prices. I think they used to buy them from the states also and take a small mark up

Message us for a quote. We are usually cheaper than Tirerack on most tires with a 1-2 day turnaround.

I personally thought the Indy looks more like a bootleg RE-11 :lawl:. Same tread pattern and almost the same rubber compound, half the price.

Will DriveHard and TSS only sell performance tires, or all-season and winter tires as well?

Do they have any comparable warranty like other tires shops? For example, Kal Tire and Costco offer tire replacement under warranty,

I order from Tirerack, have them ship to Firestone in Bellingham (one of their official installers), make an apt to have them installed. Drive over, have lunch, and it's all done. I always declare it on the way back, depending on how much, I've been waved through once and once, I got pulled over into customs. Even with customs, conversion, it is still cheaper than buying equivalent set here in Canada.

Works the same for Discount Tires, I think.

I've purchased tires from TSS and drivehard.
Happy with price and service from both places. I don't have time to drive to the states to save maybe $100, if that, which would be lucky with the current exchange rate.

Don't know about warranties but they do sell pretty much any tire. My dad had General Altimax RT43s installed on his Forester at DriveHard.

+ for drivehard as well. i got my "dealer takeoff" contis for a great price from them.

or troll craigslist to see if there is any good used stuff out there.

what about sorat wheels and tires on esplanade in north van? they used to be a sponsor here but i haven't been there since they dropped out of that. are they still giving good prices?

but like it was mentioned above now is out of season to be buying anything summer-related for tires...

Blew a front tire on a pothole about a month ago on my way to Portland. Got a pair of DWS06 for $500 USD installed if it gives you an idea of how much you can save. 245/40/19. That price was without shopping around. Can't be picky when you're rolling around on a donut.

Costco. Can't beat pricing on most tires and their in house warranty is awesome. Make sure to let them install the tire for the warranty, though. I have RE71-R and PSS from Costco on my cars

Just bought 4 brand new BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S from Kal Tire. They had it cheaper than 1010tires and cheaper than tire rack after currency conversion and delivery charge. Kal Tire even offers a 5% price beat guarantee. Costco had the same tires for like a buck less, I copied and pasted the link to them and saved another $35! Very simple and no need to drive across the border.

just bumping an old thread.

if anyone is looking for regular tires, canadian tire is having a spring sale (conditions apply). some of the prices are good, others not so much so shop and compare. this is a in-store clearance event of what they have on their racks so it's different for each location:

I also ordered the same tires from Costco. Putting them on next week cannot wait to be off winters.

Looked everywhere and nobody could beat their price. It may be ~$50 CAD cheaper if I go through discount tires in the states but factor in time and gas and maybe customs it's definitely not worth it with our exchange rate.

I did not enjoy the BFG GForce Sport Comp 2. They were loud, wore fast, and had a soft widewall.

On topic, I recently jumped on the Costco bandwagon for tire searching but missed out on the Bridgestone rebate. Went to my trusty friends at The Speed Syndicate to find a new tire they are promoting, Kumho PS91. Looking forward to testing them out for the May 14th track day at the Ridge. Have seen mixed-good results for this cheater tire, giving cheap cost, high treadwear for what they are, great dry grip and hard sidewall.

Replacing my Federal 595RSR.

I won't comment on the Kumho PS91 specifically since I have not tried it myself, but in the past, I've been disappointed by their offerings a number of times. The biggest letdown was the Kumho XS where the tire just completely falls flat on its face at the slightest trace of dampness. So colour me highly skeptical of their products.

Currently, a really, really good budget performance tire is the Firestone Indy 500 (not to be confused with the Wide Oval Indy 500). The tire is really a rebranded N.American release of the Bridgestone RE003, and it is excellent under most performance driving conditions. It can't compete with any of the 200TW tires, but it compares well against the next grade of high performance summer tires in both the dry and the wet. Best of all, it sells at roughly 70% of what the benchmark tire of the class -- Michelin Pilot Super Sports -- sells for, while delivering more than 90% of the performance.
