Many other people use these services?
Since moving to Vancouver I've signed up and they are freakin awesome!
Most of the time even with spending a few minutes to find a spot it's 1/4 the cost of a cab, easy access, easy to park FourTwo's and completely reasonable rates.
Typically use Car2Go but signed for Evo this week as having more than two passengers can be useful for weekends etc

My GF occasionally uses car2go and I've ridden shotgun in the smarts.
One thing I did notice is that because it's "shared", some are actually pretty disgusting. I've found used bandaids and shit, sticky door handles, etc. One of the cars we used also smelled like something was burning.
Another thing is a lot of times you arrive at your destination, then spend another 5 minutes looking for somewhere to park it, which costs unnecessary $$$.
Lastly, because they bill by the minute, there are a lot of assholes in them who drive like absolute shitheads, although that's not really the service provider's fault lol

do have a quick question about modo... so when you book, can you book a FRS or Abarth specifically? Or just luck of the draw type of thing?

you can look on the map to see what type of vehicle is parked at the location.

I was just on their website, and it looks like you can book performance vehicles. Under that category, there was only the FRS.

Car2go just dropped their rates too I think. It's only 32 cents per minute for the smart fourtwos now. Cheaper than Evo car which is at 41 cents per minute.
It's a pretty good thing to have even if you all drive. Perfect for driving downtown if you plan on drinking. You can just drive to the bar and ditch the car then cab home.
I've been hyping this up to all of my friends after recently discovering this lol

I'll admit I had to try out the "sport shifting" when I first got in lol
The Car2go system though in terms of the app, ease of use, etc was surprising in how well it all worked.
Modo I beleive you need to return the car to the same spot you take it from though?

modo isn't bad but wait for promo before signing up.

Ya, downside with modo is that it has to be returned to the pickup location.
I like how modo has different types of vehicles, like mini vans and trucks.

Car2go getting CLA and GLA this month.
If I see one on my app nearby I'm takin one out for shiggles.
I always figured there was a thread on car2go lol it's been around for a while now. Definitely the best option imo when going to DT for events.

EVO is great for car owners because it costs 2 dollars a year if you don't use it. I use it for rare situations like driving home when the Skytrain is down or after watching a sporting event in downtown.
I got a MODO for a few months just to try out cars. The Abarth is a ton of fun. I took it up to Whistler and back.

Newbie question, but how far can you drive these cars to? If you live all the way in Coquitlam, can you still drive that car there from DT? Is there some sort of restriction in distance or it's fine as long as you take your car back?

Modo its just based on Daily/hourly rental, im sure you cant drive to Kelowna or the states, somewhat within reason
Car2Go and Evo are only in Vancouver though, some car2go's parked at BCIT but you cant take them East unless you plan to drive back

nope...i've never had to with car2go's
but then again i never pick the cars with low fuel lol
I remember when they first came out, there was a mastercard included in every car in case you needed to gas it. We can all guess how well that went cus that's no longer the case. I think if you do end up gassing it, they will reimburse you on your account.

Not unless you NEED gas in order to get to your destination I beleive. And yea you Lee receipts and get reimbursed
With Evo though they have a gas card in the glove box

That's exactly what I use it for. The odd trips here and there, it comes in handy for sure.
I have both Car2Go and Evo but I find myself using Evo more since they're "easier" to drive. One time the use of their bike racks came in handy as well. When I had to be back to my storage locker before they closed for the night.
I'll have to look into Modo and other services. Maybe just to have some fun lol.

Each company has different policies. I only used Modo and Evo and you can drive it to Coqutlam as long as you return the car in a zone (evo) or its original spot (modo)

This is what I was so impressed with in terms of the app
So you reserve the car through the app, you have 20 minutes to get to the car
Walk up to the car hit "start rental" in the app
There is then a display on the front windshield which displays a 4 digit code, you input that code into the app
The car unlocks, you close the doors, and then there is a lock box which the key is locked into via a fob on the dash, by sitting in the car the key is unlocked and you start the car and the rental.
It's a seemless system through the app, was really impressed first time I used it
The good news is that you don't have to care about them, the bad news is no one else cares about them either.
It's that mentality that makes me want to punch most of the drivers of these cars in the face for cutting people off in smart cars. I've seen car2go cut off a semi without care. Fine, people do this too on cars they own for themselves, but not having to care so much about a car that you share with a community amplifies the bad behavior on the road especially when most services charge by the minute.

Lol so I dont have an account, but I needed to get a car and drive to pick up a buddy who was having trouble getting a cab.
Luckily he was a member, so he gave me directions to one of the cars, I told him the numbers he entered it in his app (while at his house 15km away), and the car unlocked and I went and picked him up.
I was a cynic at the beginning as well, but after using the 5 person car2go's a few times to get downtown then ditching them and going drinking, I think its a fantastic system.

as someone who gets these fucking cars towed constantly. MAKE SURE YOU PARK THESE THINGS WHERE THEY BELONG. you leave one in my lot and you will get billed $120 for the tow and $50 by the car share company. i've towed 4 evo's and one car2go in the last 10 days...

I think a good portion of the user base don't have cars or have maybe never owned one, similar to a lot of tenants renting places etc
No pride in ownership and can't respect the property.
One upside was someone forgot an umbrella in one I took and it was pissing out where we had to walk to the restaurant so that worked out lol
For a reference for people in terms of what it costs, I drove from Hastings/Renfrew to CRAFT at athletes village and it was like $6.50

It's stupid people get them towed when the restrictions make it relatively easy to find a proper spot :/

Car2go had a pilot project in Richmond last year. The drivers would leave the cars anywhere. I saw tickets on the cars all the time. Leaving it in alleys, pay zones, beside a yellow curb and no stopping zones. No wonder they are no longer there.
I've been using EVO and car2go over the past 2 years just based off their promo minutes. Nothing beats parking at PC and then heading out without worrying about parking costs.

lol, just as a PSA, grab all your shit before you exit the car.
My GF took a car2go home, got out of the car, and went to the trunk to grab her purse (with her cell phone in it), and the car locked by itself.
Thankfully she was right near her house so she went in and called customer service and they unlocked it remotely - they also said that there should be a 15-second-ish delay before the car unlocks, but that can go by very quickly.
So, to prevent ruining your night if you were on your way out somewhere, take all your shit before you close the doors.

I think the problem isn't the doors locking quickly its just people being forgetful or oblivious which leads to them leaving phones, umbrellas, condoms, etc in the cars.

This might be worth sharing with both companies in case they can do something to address it. I'm sure they don't like having their cars towed anymore than you do having to go through the trouble of towing them. I'm curious what it is specifically about your lot that seems to attract a lot of car sharing vehicles? Is it close to a home zone boundary? There must be something about it that makes people think it's an approved parking area. If you're willing to share the location, I could help make some guesses.

early on i talked to both companies. neither gave a fuck. what you need to understand is the car share companies make money of the cars being towed. there is an admin fee for having a car towed and all applicable tow and recovery fees are billed directly to the driver. the tow companies LOVE towing them. they always get paid, and it's never a hassle. i use drakes towing. they told me once they had 15 car2go's towed in one night... it's nothing special about my lot i have multiple drakes towing/authorized parking only signs. people are just stupid.

Can confirm that most car share users, at least the ones that park by my parents' place in Strathcona, are dumb as rocks
I've seen evo's/c2g on private driveways, blocking driveways, parked on no stopping sign, parked on private business lots, parked blocking dumpsters etc.
They've also got an ongoing issue with dipshits boxing in their cars to squeeze into permit only spots, along with a couple of minor claims from one of their cars getting hit in the bumper by an evo. Funny part about that was that that particular evo driver didn't even try to run, just parked and left it. Clearly obvious from the scuff on the Evo's bumper and the matching scuff on my brother's bumper were one and the same. It's like the previous driver didn't think it would catch up to them. Hopefully Evo charged the ever living shit out of them on top the current claim against them.
As much as these idiots are cash cows for car shares, at some point, they should be banned from driving altogether.

Most of the people using the service seemingly have never had their own car so they don't understand pride of ownership.
I've gotten into cars full of garbage, personal belongings, mud caked on the wheel/console etc.
Been using both Evo and car2go recently, it's kind of a pain coming into downtown and finding a proper parking spot. Went to Zajac nights a month ago and had to park in a metered spot, figured someone would grab it before meter expired but ended up getting a ticket :(
Their ticketing system is good though, they just charge your account the minimum payment amount right off the bat instead of you having to deal with it
