Maybe there is a chance that you can eat some Louisiana style fried chicken, butter milk biscuits, and order some Timbits in Canada. FeelsGoodMan

Parent company of Tim Hortons and Burger King is paying $1.8 billion cash to buy the Popeye's restaurant chain.

Tim Hortons' parent company buying Popeyes chain - NEWS 1130 (http://www.news1130.com/2017/02/21/tim-hortons-parent-company-buying-popeyes-chain/)

OAKVILLE, ON. (NEWS 1130) – The parent company of Tim Hortons and Burger King says it will pay US$1.8 billion cash to buy the Popeyes chain of chicken restaurants in a so-called friendly deal.

Restaurant Brands International is offering US$78.70 for each share of Popeyes, a 19.5 per cent premium to the stock’s close on Friday.

The proposed takeover requires various approvals and sufficient shareholder support but Restaurant Brands International expects the deal to close by early April. Restaurant Brands was formed three years ago when 3G Capital-backed Burger King bought Tim Hortons Inc. for $11 billion.

Restaurant Brands International has more than 20,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries. Popeyes would add 2,600 restaurants in the United States and other countries including Canada.

“Popeyes is a powerful brand with a rich Louisiana heritage that resonates with guests around the world,” says Daniel Schwartz, RBI’s chief executive officer. “We look forward to taking an already very strong brand and accelerating its pace of growth and opening new restaurants in the US and around the world.”

The restaurant is best known for its Louisiana-style fried chicken and buttermilk biscuit.

In theory it's awesome.
But consider what Restaurant Brands did to Tim Hortons and chances are they'll fxxk up Popeyes too.

Been closed for years, it turned into a KFC.

All I remember about Popeye's was their jambalaya. It was decent, but it was pricey as heck for small portions.

I used to love Lee's country fried chicken until I went to one in Abbotsford before a Heat game. I bought a family pack for our little tailgate party and grabbed a juicy piece for myself. After peeling off the skins and eating it like a slob,I dove in to take my first bite. That's when I realized that the piece that I was eating was way past rotten.

Lee's proclaimed jihad on my guts that night.

Demographic that works at Tim Horton's. 'Nuff said. They aren't known to be quick or overly attentive to detail or quality.

At some busy Tim Horton's locations, there's like 8-9 people behind the counter and stuff comes out slow as molasses, so it's the training that I think that's lacking big time and the quality of staff being hired is just bad.

On average I have to wait 3-4 minutes after I paid for a steeped tea with two milk and 1 sugar. No, it's not a fresh batch being brewed either. It's supposed to be a 30 second process; dispense milk, dispense sugar, then pour in the tea and stir.

smoothie.

I agree that Churches is #1 by far. original thigh and dunked in gravy. :sweetjesus::sweetjesus::sweetjesus::sweetjesus::s weetjesus::sweetjesus::sweetjesus::sweetjesus:

You don't know church's until you've put their gravy on everything on their menu. I've done it. It's amazing, even gravy on the apple pie is FUCKING AMAZING.

I'm living in New Orleans right now and I would still say Church's > KFC > Popeyes.
The biscuits from Popeyes are pretty good though, and their sweet tea, which is like pure sugar.

Same, sometimes on my way back from Superstore I can't help but place an order. Not as good as Churches but for the price it's hard to beat, made fresh every time too so shits piping hot.

You guys do realise for a business where 6% profit margin is considered exceptional, one has to leverage economy of scale aggressively to please everyone from employees to investors. Chicken is probably one commodity US over produces (ever wonder why friend chicken is everywhere in places like Korea?)..make sense for QSR to go into that market.

Yet every drive thru is constantly wrapped around the building. I don't get it, I know it's cheap but is that all that matters anymore, or do some people actually think their food is good?

Hehe

I am not really a fried chicken fan any more. But I remember back in college, whenever I had that sudden rush of craving for fried chicken, I'd just go with friend to uncle willy's and KO myself with it.

Unlimited fried chicken (you have to go about 30min after opening when they bring out the fresh batch, it's at least as good as KFC) dipped in curry sauce for 10 bucks. :sweetjesus:

Let's face it, when you're a laboring slob smoking a cigarette in your dirty coveralls, you probably don't care about the quality of your food. All you care about is "salty and greasy". At least this is what I see from my travels in Port Kells, to Calgary, all the way to Anjou, Quebec. I see more Chevy trucks in the line up than I do Benzes. Maybe that's just because I spend more time in industrial areas?

I'll get my coffee from Tim's these days, but they're not getting any other business from me. Maybe a muffin? It's hard to screw up a muffin. That said, if there is a McDonalds around I'll go there for a coffee. It's cheap, hot, and doesn't taste like burning.

Timmies is also big around hospitals basically places where staff need a cheap caffeine fix. I know plenty of surgeons that prefer Tim's than others. (not to mention most Tim's are open 24 hours), quite an advantage when it is 4AM and you just wrapped in the OR.

The advantage of Timmies have over other places like Starbucks is they have been around longer (continuously and not boom bust cycle), so they have got a lot more strategically located places in their porfolio.

Maybe that's just because I spend more time in industrial areas?

I used to live around there :okay:. Enjoyed the food though. Long lineups and high prices compared to KFC.

The area has cleaned up but has Richmond like traffic and retardation.

I'd love Chik-fil-a to come here but I imagine there would be backlash because it's a *gasp* Christian company! However, it's harder to operate as a franchise compared to other fast food chains so it would take one dedicated mofo to open one up here.

I was flirting with the gal behind the till, and she gave me an extra drum stick for free.

More often than not, when I asked for extra at the Churches on Hastings they give you an extra piece or 2 depending what you order. I've only tried this during late night after going out.
