Is there a way to transfer video from my Shaw Arris Gateway PVR to an external drive or computer?

I have an important show that I want to show someone and I want to show it without taking my camera to record my TV..

u cant do it in a legit way as the harddrive is encrypted to prevent pirating

the not so legit way of doing it is getting a capture card for ur computer and component cables. i'll let u figure out the rest

Sucks that movies and ppv's on Shaw are only on vod, so you can't even save them for more than 48hrs

Your best bet is to search online using the model number of the box, since Shaw aren't going to be the only ones using that model that should get you better info.

Seriously, what's the show, you'll be surprised we might be able to help.

^this. might be just easier to let us know what it is... because you know we might magically have it on our computers already...

I know way back with my old Motorola DCT3416 I was able to plug the firewire port into my PC and with some drivers I downloaded off the net was able to get video output on the PC.

The downside is that it's raw & uncompressed, so huge filesizes if you want to save hours of shows (you'll have to compress post capture).

I don't know if the firewire port is still enabled on the newer PVR's, I haven't tried it with my newer DCX3400
