Hey all,
Has anyone tried going down to the States with a RHD drive car? If so, did the border officers give you any trouble? Especially because of the 25 year import law in the US.
I want to start going across just to get gas every week or two and take a couple jerry cans too (I live 5 minutes from the border so worth it for me especially since I'll be getting premium gas)
I go down almost every with a LHD but never with a RHD so any feedback is appreciated.
Thank you in advance :)

^ this is think as long as you have valid long term insurance you will be alright.
us border is mainly concern with either the car being stolen or you are trying to sell it somehow in the states

Went down a few years ago in a rhd and no problems. As others have said they're only concerned if you seem like you're going to leave the car down there.

I go down about 3 times a month in my RHD and I haven't had any problems. Mind you I have Nexus so that might help.

They have RHD cars in the States. You can temporarily drive any cars there as long as you're coming back with it and it's legal from your country (insured, plated, paperwork, etc).
Canada-side legality: My girlfriend has an 8-month contract in the States and car insured in BC. ICBC just wants the car to return to Canada w/in a year to renew the insurance before it expires. Insurance went up slightly if they know you're going into US.

You'll have to reverse through the line up otherwise the border guard won't talk to you

Even if you're in a LHD, don't go down on temps. Went down a couple years ago to Portland on temps, guard didn't seem to want to believe us that the car wasn't being sold, but I guess because we admitted to having oranges in the car (forgot you can't take them across) he decided we were being honest?

cole's note for OP
- drive backward thru the lineup
- bring oranges
