Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew or how to contact a local fruit stand that sells Chilliwack corn and various other fruits and vegetables. They are located on Boundary and Moscrop in the parking lot of the local church and they normally start selling around this time. Since I moved to Richmond, I no longer able to drive by and see when they are open. So, if anyone can provide any info or let me know when they are there it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You might be able to call the Church and find out who they rent the parking lot to.

Richmond farm market, right near the Massey tunnel. They are open now and sell as much local produce as possible. Might not be a fruit stand but it's as close as you can get

I just called them and they knew exactly who I was talking about. Thank you!

I go all around Vancouver buying local fruits and vegetables.
I like this place because they bring it from the Okanagan which is convenient.

I know exactly which stand you are talking about. 10/10 times that I stopped there to get corn, it was really good whereas other farmer's market is hit and miss. If you did get info on times open, please post!

They will be there starting June 17th. They didn't tell me anything more than that. I will keep you posted when they arrive and what product they have.

I seem to think / remember that local corn wouldn't be in season until late July / August-ish.

If I didn't know any better I'd swear I posted this myself. I wonder about them every summer. It's actually around 28/29th. There's another one just up the street from there but I prefer this one.

the fruit stand is just a couple chinese ladies selling out of the back of a van. nothing sophisticated, and definitely not going to see them using social media anytime soon.

Is this in the big parking lot on the west side of the street? Connected to the Greek Orthodox church?

Just bought some today from the stand -- $10 for a ~2.25 lb bag, $15 for a 3.xx lb bag. Their list price is $4.50/lb, but when I worked out the actual math after I got home, the per pound price turned out to be closer to $4.40/lb instead.

The bags I saw all look very fresh to me, and is a mix of medium and large sized cherries. The bag I chose looked really good, and when I ate them, is (of course) super fresh. But it is a touch more tangy than I was expecting, given their looks.

Save-On-Foods was doing $3.99/lb of BC cherries yesterday, and those looked good too. Difficult to say which one is a better bargain.

* * *

I talked to the fruit stand lady, and she told me they are there on the south side of the Greek church everyday. But once the Greek festival starts, they'll be moving into a stall there. Not sure how long the Greek festival will go on for though.

Just an FYI, corn from Chilliwack is not Chilliwack corn, as in, a specific type of corn. It’s just your average corn that grows just about anywhere in the valley. I think they should call it Spuzzum Corn, Lol. People sure get excited over it.

People should sign a petition to have the corn officially recognized as a variety, lol. The reason why the corn is so popular is that it’s grown pretty close and it’s fresh. Freshness is what makes the corn great.

https://harvesttotable.com/corn_varieties_best_bets_and_e/

I should plant corn in my backyard next year. Get Frip to bless it and call it Flipped MG1 corn.

Bought some of the chilliwack corn from that stand but I don't find it too sweet. Is there sweeter corn in another local pop up truck or farmer market?

MG1

I prefer bi-colour/peaches and cream variety than the local, bland corn.

Thinking of growing my own................. lol, used to say that in the 60's, but not corn.

Corn aint out yet it seems.. drove from penticton to chilliwack yesterday and not one of the signs says corn, and even the yellow barn by the highway in chilliwack didnt have any corn signs, so i'm assuming its a little early... for corn at least

Greek Fest is starting from July 4-14th. So the farmers will probably be out after that.

Isn't corn season sometime in August and September ?

Right now blueberries are almost available in the Richmond farms starting June 28th

I'm more for the cherries. They have the best selection including rainier. They usually come out when the cherries come out.

I drove by today, the greek fest setup is still quarantining the whole parking lot. I don’t understand, dont festivals pop up overnight? Why is something that will open in 2 weeks already 2 weeks into its setup? Down the block, there is usually another fruit stand right off 29th, but that one isnt there either. There was a sign though, so i suspect it will show up any day now. Ive always preferred the chinese ladies in their van though.

Guy selling blueberries on Kingsway and Church's at 33rd.

Sometimes I see a white van on Marine Dr towards Market Crossing selling corn (later in the summer).

Anyone try white van selling seafood?

Sometimes I see it on Marine Dr, past Boundary, toward Market Crossing. I'm guessing First Nations selling. Do they have special indigenous rights to fisheries?

I was walking through Keefer Street in Chinatown tonight at 6 PM and saw a farmer in a pick up truck selling blueberries out of the back. There was a crowd of five or six people around the truck. I bought 5 pounds of boxed Duke blueberries for $10.
