Hey all, couple questions regaurding the reliability of a car I found on Craigslist. I'm not super good with cars at all so might as well ask you guys. I'm looking for something I won't have to be putting work into constantly. I also want something that's kinda been modded a little bit. Just wondering your guys opinions on this 240 and whether you think it'll be reliable. https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/6181827282.html

You want reliable you should buy a stock car.
Any modification and swap means you will potentially be dealing with problems either now or down the road. Given that you don't know much about cars it is highly likely that you won't know what to do what problems occur.
Modded a bit would be like simple bolt in. The car you are looking at is definitely not consider modded a bit. Given that it's also an older car, depending on how the previous owner are they might or might not be wear and tear item needing repair and replacement.

lol
swapped sr20 and reliable in the same sentence.
if want a 240sx, buy one not swapped.
if want a SR20 powered 240sx, buy a rhd silvia. thats the best bet in reliability and won't make you hate cars.

Any car that has been swapped or modded significantly you're banking on the quality of the work the previous owner or the shop they took it to did. In my experience, odds are somebody did a shit job on something somewhere along the line.

Your talking about a nearly 30 yo car with significant mods. I wouldn't expect much for reliability.

^ strut tower rust is common on those cars, so probably a repair.

If you're going to buy a modified car, just assume it will require work. Maybe not constantly, but there are so many fine details that can pop up as issues that wouldn't be a concern on a stock car. I have an SR swapped s14 and I love it. It has been somewhat reliable, but everything that has been an issue is related to my own intervention. The SR is a great engine and if it is set up properly they are pretty simple and reliable. I just wouldn't bank on that if you don't have the patience and opportunity to work on it when it needs work.
With that said, if you buy it and need a hand I'm happy to help!

Get something like a 8th Gen Civic Si, well under $10K and reliable. If you want RWD get a used FRS for around or under $15K.
