No matter how boring it is, I make it a point to go at least once a year.

Perogies from Hunky Bills, something from Jimmies, and a Buckeye Root Beer. Hunting for free stuff.

Oh, and visit the jesus tent............

^ taken from last year's thread, Gulolol.

I won't be in Vancouver during the opening, but plan to take in the two freebie days.

PNE aint boring!

The dueling pianos at the beer garden is amazing, hopefully its the same couple as the last few years, they are outstanding.

Picked up our free neighborhood tickets last week, also, Vancity members can get in for $5 everyday this year, i cant remember if you just show your membership card or you need to do somthing else

For someone who's been going for nearly 60 years, it got boring as soon as they got rid of all the buildings and displays. Having said that, the new stuff is a pretty good and have revitalized the "Fair". "Change is good, Donkey."

I was responding to all kinds of "It's boring," comments from previous years.

Anyway, complaining is a Vancouver pastime.......... gulolol. It ain't right, if you're a Vancouverite!

Yup, dude is like timeless. He looks almost as young as he did when I first visited his stand.

There's something about eating his stuff outdoors at the PNE that is magical.

Yeah, I heard that and I jump like a little girl whenever I see bugs. Not going to even think of eating one. I don't care how good it tastes or how much protein it has and shit. I'd rather be forced to stare at Integra Girl for a millennia than to eat a freaking bug........... damn, I'll have to think about what I just said. Eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww to both. Has anyone been to the craft beer fest during previous years?

Admission is $7 in person, but you save $2 so it's only $5 if you buy online. Admission includes a 4oz collector’s sampling cup and it's $2 per drink token.

My question is how do the drink tokens work. Is each 4oz pour only $2, or does each vendor have differing prices?

Every sample is the same $2 ticket at each tent

Can buy multiple tickets inside once you pay admission, but there isnt a discount in buying 10 tickets etc.

It's a good event to spend a few hours with friends, lines are usually very quick if they are there at all. My problem with it is that most breweries bring lighter beers or specialty bullshit like Heff's, fruit beers, etc. to appeal to a larger crowd as opposed to their staple IPA's, pale ales, etc, where most are too bitter for a lot of people.

Other than that it's always a good time and i've gone multiple times over the last couple years

Crushed back some pulled pork sandwiches and finished off the night with a hotdog stuffed inside a deep fried pickle and 3 bags of mini donuts...I felt like total shit afterwards but I don't regret it.

I was walking through the games so my girlfriend could gaze at all the giant cheap stuffed teddy things she wanted and finally found a giant pokemon one. She attempted to play a game, she failed and I laughed. The kid running the game called me out on it so I played. 3 rows of clowns standing on a shelf and you get 3 balls. If you can knock 3 over you win a jumbo prize. Easy. I play ball with friends every year in a mens league. First try and I get her the prize she wanted. Later on we bump in to one of her friends and she asks me to get her one so I say sure. We all walk back to the game and I was told I'm not allowed to play the game anymore since I won a prize from there today... seriously?????

If you win a prize from a game are you no longer allowed to play that game or is that some crap the 16 year old kid made up so I didn't rob him of all his stuffed animals???

Anyone happen to notice Mel Gibson there yesterday? I was there all day so I probably walked right past him at one point or another but he was sporting a mustache and hat so he must've blended in to the crowd as a regular random.

Depends on the game and prize, but yes that rule exists. Can't play it for 1 year.
If you really wanted to win another one, go back when a different person is working the game. :alonehappy:

Went twice on Saturday (day tiime and evening) and it was pretty dead. Living in the area I go multiple times every year and the last couple years it has really really dropped off hard in terms of attendance. The first tell tale sign has always been when you walk in and hit the food vendors. First thing I noticed was over 50% of the vendors have zero and i literally mean zero line up and even the ones with lineups were like 3 or 34 people deep. The huge burger place was the only place with any significant line.

Walked through some of the exhibits, the hockey one, the toy one and again dead. Getting a table to eat, no issues it was literally take your pick.

$1.50 entry + weekend + nice weather didn't help at all and I'm not really surprised. Nothing has really changed, it's the same old shit, actually even worse than what it used to be. However, I'll still always go so long as PNE keeps giving em free tix every year.

I went today for free admission and it was bordering on terrible. I'm not going back tonight or next week. Sad...........

And where's the rain? PNE traditionally meant rain in Vancouver.

Like winson604 said, I'll keep going at least once a year, as long as it's free.

EDIT: sorry for the whining, but I was born and raised in Vancouver (whiner's paradise), so cannot help it. It's in me.

Went yesterday and it was a pretty good crowd. It didn't feel ridiculously packed as previous years, but there was a good amount of people there.

The cricket burger was $9.50 and the cricket fries was $8.50. Friend got a coupon book near the Pacific Coliseum entrance that gave me $1 off, so it ended up being $17 for both and they were relatively good. The burger patty was some cheap frozen meat patty and you could definitely taste it. The fries came with a lot more crickets and was slathered in gravy. I'd definitely order the fries again as it was filling (carbs) and there were a lot more crickets.

They're a normal staple in a lot of places in SE Asia where meat protein is expensive (bugs are extremely high in protein).

$10 at someone's lot, $25 for the lot across pne

I will note that for people's houses the prices fluctuate and go as low as $10 but can be up to $25.

alex.w *// - It may have been uber packed or felt like uber packed but trust me, it's still way less busier than it used to be by a long shot. Some days way more obvious than others. When I talk about past I ain't talk about like well when I was a kid over 20 years ago. The numbers they release at the end of the year stating attendance don't lie. Here's an example of their last 8 years.

2016 - 712,367
2015 - 678,193
2014 - 769,242
2013 - 712,049
2012 - 763,689
2011 - 803,598
2010 - 937,485
2009 - 855,137

I'm sure if you follow the attendance farther back you'll see they they were usually in the 900k's.

Went again yesterday with the wife and kid once in the day and again in the evening. Did different stuff than we did when we went a week ago. Food again was meh, even worse this year actually. I agree the comment of stuff being made ahead of time, especially fried stuff.

Had the foot long bacon wrapped pizza dog, was pretty good, 7/10

https://i.imgur.com/x9oMTDF_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=high

Also had the "crazy pizza bites" which were just single peices of pepperoni inside rather than like a bunch of small slices like the pictures showed, tasted pretty good but again seemed like they had been cooked prior then quickly flash fried again, would have been better if it was crispier.

https://i.imgur.com/i0LhdKH_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=high

Had one of those Prague cone ice creams as well, so far the highlight of the food there. The cone is good and their soft serve is killer. I recommend getting extra soft serve if u get one

Take a Evo or Car2Go and park on Rupert by Callister park. We drove to an Evo that was near PNE and hopped in. Drove to Callister park and parked. Cost us roughly 4ish dollars round trip with no hassle at all. Plus there is an entrance by the Coliseum that no one lines up at.

I doubt I would go on rides, doesnt seem too interesting enough and plus the line would be long as hell... Just check out some shows and stuff.. Going with some co workers and we would all share parking, so it shouldnt be too bad..

Hondaracer
08-31-2017, 09:06 AM
Car2go and Evo car you can 100% legally park in any of those spots around renfrew where people have chairs/water jugs etc trying to block the spots. They dont own the street parking and its completely within your right to park in those designated areas where it says "residents only"

winson604
08-31-2017, 11:53 AM
Yea there's a couple ways around the parking depending on how desperate, cheap, smart or otherwise.

Car2Go\Evo definitely is an easy win, depending on your scenario either take it from your house to the park or drive close enough i.e. Broadway and Renfrew as an example then pick up a car from there and park like 1 block away in a signed area.

If you're crazy enough and maybe it isn't so crazy if you don't live far is take your car there the night before and park it in a free spot i.e. AR Lord Elementary. Then get a ride home and get dropped off the next day and leave with your parked car.

Or of course you can just pay, people have said some house parking is as low as $10, shit that's pretty good I spend just as much parking at a random meter downtown on any given day.

Its worth it for the cost of a movie. Gives you something to do outdoors in this beautiful weather.

People complain about how Vancouver is a no fun city, but they don't take advantage when there are seasonal things like this.

Although beers are $8 the price of entry and a couple beers is enough to kill an evening

Also the dueling pianos is excellent and it's completely free. I'd pay entry just to watch them for the night

Its worth it for the cost of a movie. Gives you something to do outdoors in this beautiful weather.

People complain about how Vancouver is a no fun city, but they don't take advantage when there are seasonal things like this.

and yet those same people can spend like $6 daily on a Venti no sugar, no whip, no dairy, green tea frappucinno, extra hot and cold at the same time and their name is spelled with a K instead of a C.

I think vancouver just has too much selection to do but people just don't fuckin' wanna do it.

We humans are funny like that. I won't bat an eye and spend $1000 on a jacket or $300 on jeans but sometimes I drag my feet over spending like $10 on some household item or something.

Does anyone know if they sell off their stuffies on the last day of the fair?

doubt it as Playland continues to operate after the PNE closes.

Went again last night, like the 5th time so far, Dueling pianos great once again, Gypsy kings pretty good

Had a slice of pizza from the place at the top near the prize home, fucking $6 slices of pizza but was decent, good dough but toppings lacking.

Later in the night when i was half cut had some of the Amsterdamn fries by the upper concert stage, although its just fries with mayo the fries were hella fresh and garlic mayo was good. Great drinking food and honestly probably some of the better food at the fair lol

Going back tonight for some heavy drinking as finally have a day off tom!

If you're looking for a discount, then no. But if you are looking to buy, they should sell, you just have to ask how much

I'm the opposite. I'll spend like $200 on dinner then hmm and huh about a $10 shirt.

My problem is I'll also spend the $200 for dinner too :okay:

Well to be honest it ain't so bad, generally I'm totally cool with buying cheap ass $9.99 Zara or H&M plain tshirts. There's a time and a place where I'll drop the big bucks on a quality winter jacket or something without hesitation but I ain't ballin enough to go crazy on everything nor do I want to because spending like $200 on a tshirt for example sounds dumb.

Back on topic, traffic for PNE has really picked up this last week after yet another slow start.

As long as we don't have to say RIP to you anytime soon, it's all good. I think I've been to the PNE at least once, every year.
