Dace fish with black beans in oil
Classic. My dad made that for my sister and I when my mom had to work nights. Simple and tasty.
Dolmades - stuffed (with rice) grape/vine leaves
Find them at Mediterranean markets or if you're down in the states, give the Trader Joe's dolmades a go.

Funny story about canned Dace with black beans, friend's mom (asian) grew up in Venezuela in the 50s/60s. Supposedly you couldn't import raw black beans on their own. The only way they could get it in was the canned black bean & dace so everyone scraped out all the black beans for use in other dishes. Friend's mom never had black beans with dace until she was in Canada.
On topic: Canned pink/coho/sockeye salmon with a little pepper and soy sauce for flavour.

Bruhh.. Sardines in tomato sauce. It's like 70 cents. One can and a pot of rice. Instant meal.

Certain brands do mui choi pork belly that actually isn't too bad. Some are HORRIBLE though. Use the ingredients and nutrition info to guide you (look for one with more protein which usually means more meat)

Not sure if you can get it in Van. I thiiiiiiiiink this (http://www.parknshop.com/Product-HEAVEN-TEMPLE/SLICED-PORK-W-PRESERVED-VEG/p/BP_308737) is the one I tried that was dece. This brand actually has my favourite luncheon meat (most protein, least starch and fat, has chopped ham mixed in).
These are the other (http://www.parknshop.com/Product-GREAT-WALL/PORK-WITH-PRESERVED-VEGETABLE/p/BP_339703) two (http://www.parknshop.com/Product-JUMBO/SLICED-PORK-W-PRESERVED-VEG/p/BP_116348) that are commonly available here. Don't expect much but for a canned meal, but we were surprised! My wife was extra skeptical of having canned meat for dinner EleGiggle
Actually I think I'm going to get it again this week SeemsGood

Not this exact brand but Filipino Tuyo is bomb.
I'm on a heavy fermented food diet so Kim chi, sauerkraut, pickled peppers are also staples for me at every meal :fullofwin:
