: Referral for "Remote Car Starter" Install

Hi there,

I am wanting to get a remote car starter for my car and my wifes car as we have to park outside and during the winter when it's cold, it can add an extra 5mins to wait for the car to defrost..

So I was hoping to get a remote starter to help solve this issue.

Can someone recommend a place to get this installed?

She drives a Honda Civic and I drive a Ford F150.

Got my alarm and remote start done at Sounds Good Auto in Burnaby. Can't say anything negative about them, everything works as it should and was done in a timely manner.

+1 for RPM Electronics. Did the alarm on my old car a few years ago.

SoundsGood is also another one I've heard many positive experiences from.

What's a ball park figure for something like that to be installed? (unit cost + install) I've recently thought about it but have no idea what something like that costs.

It varies by application. It cost me $1400 for my 2008 G35x to get a Compustar Alarm installed with shock, glass break, and tilt sensor, as well as Remote start and Drone SmartStart. It cost me a lot because of the complex intelligent key and Push Start system Infiniti uses.

I got a compustar autostart (no alarm) installed on a maxima from a installer in Richmond and it cost 300 cash for unit+install. Took him 2 days.

Price can vary because there are different types of remotes. Some have a screen, some have better range. But if you want ballpark, don't be surprised by $1000.

Mind you it was 10 years ago, I had a remote starter installed in my E36 for like $250 including the unit. Was brilliant for those -40 days paired with an oil pan + coolant heater.

Basic remote starters start around $150 + install + additional required hardware. So usually you're looking at around $350+ for a cheap setup. The more you spend the more alarm options you have, but for a basic vehicle you really just want the one feature.

My corolla had a super cheap auto start system. I think it was called Zenesis, it was good for a bout 3 years until it gave out. Unfortunately the brand was discontinued so I learnt my lesson in getting a better name brand. Then again it was one of those sponsor xmas sales $200 installed.

It seems like these systems are about $600 installed for a basic unit.
Which is a lot...

If anything, i'll just get one for the wife as she complains more and she's used to having a garage, whereas she parks on the street now outside the laneway...

As others have said the price depends entirely on the vehicle, with the right stuff it can be very easy to install though. The security bypass module (to make it work with the factory canbus) was $50 pre-programmed on eBay, the 2-way remote starter itself was something like $200. But because the newer systems can use a standardized serial interface to communicate, all it took was power, ground, tapping into 4 wires in the Jeep and connecting 1 cable between the modules to make it work in my 07 Jeep. It's not like the old days where you had to tie into 20+ things inside the vehicle.
