| Plumber in Richmond ?
My garburator broke and it’s leaking water every time I use the sink. Anyone recommend a good plumber in Richmond ?
Thanks

Where is the garburator leaking from? Have you checked to see if the threads got loose overtime and you may just need to tighten it back up.

It looks like the main drum is leaking. I think I need either a new one or just get rid of it all together. We hardly use it anyways.

Ending up being 160 bucks and we used a guy name bitto. He’s Italian guy and charged quite a reasonable rate of 60 bucks an hour. Took him about an hour and half plus materials.

Just a quick question is garburator even necessary these days? Live in an apartment and the sink doesn't have one. I was thinking of installing one but with the amount of cooking I do and the stuff I don't it doesn't seem a good investment to install one.

if you guys use the green bin where you live then i guess it's pointless. but if you like shredding food in it...keep in mind you'll need to maintain it if it needs repair or leaks.

You should YouTube it next time on how to replace it. I did that and did it myself. Go buy the part and you Save on the labour part. Ended up being pretty easy to replace. You'll end up watching it like a few times. youtube has a lot DIY stuff. If you can't do it, then you can call a plumber. But if you can, why not? Very satisfying in the end if u can do it yourself

having a garburator doesn't necessarily mean people throw all their food crap in there instead of the garbage or green bin.
It's just helps prevent clogging because if you don't have a garbarator and you wash dishes in your sink, then chances are some food scraps will slip through and get stuck in the pipe and clog.
On the other hand, having a garbarator you can turn it on once a week to shred and clear out whatever slipped through before it gets into the pipes.

OP, last time my garburator needed replacing, i went to amazon and found a small one for $60. I then found a local general handy man who removed and replaced for like $70. You don't really need a licensed plumber for this.

Don't buy a cheap garburator. Or if you do, at least get one which has a manual turning function on the bottom for when it gets clogged. I had a cheap ass one in my condo, my tenants who have it clogged all the time and I had to jam all sort of shit in there to manually spin it. Most have a bolt on the bottom you can spin to manually turn the unit.

Love my garburator can't live without one anymore, so much easier cleaning dishes, just wash all junk off instead scraping to garbage. Mine use to get stuck all time had to manually turn bottom and eventually started leaking. Watched a few diy videos on utube went home Depot bought a badger for like 150 or so and installed it myself, surprisingly easy. Just twist it off and connect a few wires together, match up the ones u took off. And I kept the top metal peice on sink so less work.

I replaced my garburator in my townhouse. When they built these places they use cheap ones. I just went all out and got a 700 dollar one. Haven't looked back since. And yes get one that lets you manually turn the unit just in case your kids throw toys in the sink and you don't notice..LOL..RIP Batman

heads up though, the Badger Insinkerator has an issue where overtime the plastic casing cracks and leaks. that's what happened to mine. When i replaced it with a new unit it looked like the previous homeowners had tried to patch it up and the patches failed.
Replaced it with this one. (all the ports were in the same positions so no alterations to the piping were needed.) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
