Black Friday 2017
Now that All Hallows' Eve is over, it's time to get ready for.......... BLACK FRIDAY!!!!
It started in the US, but businesses up here have started to join in. Not sure if it's going to be good or not. I think it was shitty last year, but who knows?
Post anything related to Black Friday here. Doesn't matter if it's down south up here, or on-line.

Been waiting for BF to pick up some SSDs and HDDs. Compared to last year, I can't believe how much SSD prices have climbed. Last year, the best SSD deal I saw was $130-something for a 750GB for a Crucial SSD -- and I missed it by a day. Right now, you can barely get a decent 250GB SSD for that money. FailFish

1599 for the 55" X900E
I wonder if that'll get any cheaper during black friday? The free wall mount / mounting service saves me the trouble of doing it myself (and potentially screwing up lol)

With the state that NCIX is in right now, I really question what kind of position they're in to put up any sort of meaningful Black Friday sales. It's sad because I have generally been able to pick up at least an item or two during their BF/CM sales in the past.

Black Friday is generally a good time to buy major appliances. Usually, there's an additional 10-15% off on top of regular sale prices.

Usually, the additional 10-15% is applied to all appliances. In addition, stores like Best Buy will offer an appliance set, like washer and dryer, or a kitchen package at a door crasher price. A door crasher price would be 20-25% off the sale price.
I've been following appliance prices for several months as I have replaced our aging appliances one by one. For laundry machines, I don't think you're going to get something lower than $600 each for modern front load machines.

Why is everyone so hype about Sony TV? They ok but I find it annoying that their apps don't work. Everytime I try to cast from my ipad to the TV it never works, would keep loading. The only solution is to go to the apps find cast, disable, force stop and then enable again. But I have to do this every single time once I turn the TV off.
Been on their chat support several times and everytime the agent just suggested to do a full recovery but that doesn't help since I have to do through the whole disable, force stop and enable again. When I asked why I have to do this they can never give me an answer or when I ask for a solution they don't have one.

That's the one thing I've heard about the TV is that the OS (AndroidTV) really lags at times. Even when changing the volume you can experience lag and slowdowns.
I mostly want the TV for the picture quality and from what I've been reading it's the best in this range. I don't really want to shell out the money for an OLED tv just yet and would prefer to get a great TV for < $1500 hopefully (55")

Sony TVs give the best all around picture quality from any kind of source. A lot of the newer TV's only look good when you're watching HD content, Sonys processing upscales lower quality content a lot better.

I got a cheaper model Sony TV SONY XBR55X700D for like $999 a few months ago. When compare to other brand with the specs it seems a decent price at that time. I haven't use the TV much these days........ kinda of feel wasted actually (haven't turn on the TV for almost 3 weeks). If only cast works better I would use a lot more since I also have a Sound bar hook up to it.

I know this is not the same as having your own Blu-Ray discs, but I find that VPL has a very good selection of movies for lending. Since you aren't trying to catch the latest DVD/Blu-Ray releases anyway, there probably isn't a super high demand for the movies.

I find that the library is a great place to borrow DVDs/Blu-Ray and audio CDs if you are not in the business of collecting them. At the very least, it gives me an opportunity to listen to the CD and decide later if I want to purchase a copy for myself.

If you guys don't mind getting the TV shipped, it's $1299 + tax from teletime.ca for the 55" X900E. Give them a call.
They're an authorized dealer so if anything were to happen you'll be covered under Sony's warranty.
I'm not sure if it'll get much cheaper on BF, about $300 cheaper than anything here in Vancouver.

Best Buy USA BF ads have the 65" 900e at $1499USD , ~$1900 Can. Hopefully it'll go on sale here in Canada. It's not the $1750/1799 price, but, may be the "official" sale price from Sony for BF. If Costco.ca matches that on BF, I'll probably pull the trigger on it. Costco has it currently at $2298 till Nov 23.

I went in the first time just looking at the TVs and expressed my interest in purchasing the X900E, they really tried to push the Samsung / LGs since they can lower the prices without fear of Sony's pricing lol.
I called the day after after seeing the teletime deal and talked to the same sales person, said best he would do was 1399. I just went in the following day to see if I could do better in person and managed to get it for 1299 + 5 year warranty. They're good at for their price, during the most of the year. But when it comes to Black Friday/Boxing Day when the prices for Samsung/LG come way down, I wouldn't take it over the latter as the prices come quite close to each other since there's not much margin on Vizio TVs.
Awesome!
Depending on which month I buy a house... I Guess I'll go with the Vizio 70'' if I'm no where near Black Friday/Boxing Day

Some of Vizio's televisions such as the M/P series have some of the best reviews for picture quality for the dollar on Rtings.

If you are going to buy a vizio tv, i would def recommend the P model.
one thing to note is, it's a very good tv if you are looking at the screen straight on, at an angle there will be some glare.
i read a lot of reviews on rtings before i purchased

Nothing about OLED really future proofs your TV. As long as your TV is 4k and supports the majority of HDR formats it's about as future proofed as you can get.

Always check for which countries they’re approved for use in.

All electronics need to have a CSA stamp or certification from a lab such as QAI etc to be approved for Canadian consumers as far as I know.
I probably wouldn’t be too worried but there is obviously a reason these things go through laboratory testing to have approval
It could be the identicle TV, but that version of that model wasn’t tested for sale in Canada.
Home insurance generally requires CSA or cUL certification in Canada. Certified that it meets the standards set out in the Canadian Electrical Code.

sounds like it's a real cop-out from the insurance company
almost every consumer electronics I've used are designed for North American usage universally. As pointed out, most of the big companies are shipping from US warehouse...and support/warranty are also done State-side.
sounds awfully similar to the claims US-market cars are built to lesser-standards, dairy is full of chemicals
and when's the last time you heard a TV caught on fire? Tube TV days left on for days on end?

I've had a tough time finding "good deals" on anything Zojirushi for the longest time, even haggling with the boss lady at the Richmond stores, and in HK and Taipei to no avail. (That or I am very terrible at the art.) They seem to have tight price controls on their products, but I cannot confirm this.
Not the same product, but maybe check Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I picked up my Zojirushi rice cooker/crock pot there with a 20% coupon. I was very surprised to find it there. I went back to the store in Yaohan and show the receipt to the boss lady at the store there and told her to suck it. :fuckyea: (*This portion is fictional.)
I have seen it advertised at BBB in the US and the 20% off will work. Not sure with Canada BBB. Will try that.

Bear in mind that SanDisk voids the warranty on their Ultra line (and possibly Extreme also) of SD cards when you use it in a dashcam. Also, I seem to recall that SanDisk cards run into more frequent problems with dashcams.
With SanDisk, their recommended cards for dashcam usage is their High Endurance line.

The Moto E is certainly newer though, and has a few additional features that the G doesn't.

There was a huge sale of pre-paid E4s IIRC for like $50 USD a month or two back in the States.
You might be able to check the RFD thread if there is still stock or pick one up off of Craigslist for cheap.
It retails for about $200 at Freedom, so keep that in mind.

Anyone have the Kinect for Xbox One on sale now that they are discontinued? I couldn't bring myself to pay an extra $100 for a console when I knew the Kinect would fail. I like buying the failed quirky add-ons for consoles. ie: tracking down a used Xbox 360 HDDVD player and 10 movies for $10.

How much did you get it for? I see Costco has them for $1898
This TV seems to be a hot ticket item as it's for sale everywhere. But it's now sold out / back-ordered at most places. It's the same price at all locations (well Costco was $2 cheaper)
The key is to look for it at 'lesser known' vendors

I picked up this set to replace my old 55" in the living room and holy crap, that extra 20 inches makes a huge difference!

BLACKBOXMYCAR currently has the BlackVue DR750S-2CH for $40 off. $479 total.
Also for today only, TAKE ADDITIONAL $35 OFF BLACKVUE DR750S-2CH with CODE: TODAYONLY750
total of $444. That decent deal? Or should I wait Friday? It also doesn't come with a magic pro.
I just picked up the DR750S-1CH from blackboxmycar for $304.99 plus tax. I've had my previous Blackvue for a year and a half and loved it other then always having to take out the microsd card. Funny because I was going to go with the DR650S since it was onsale for the same price oddly enough.

Anker as said, a 10000mAh is a good one, but I just picked up the Anker Powercore Fusion, which is only 5000, but also doubles as a wall charger that charges your stuff, then itself. Really cuts down on clutter.

i wanted 6 days in oct, it was only available at $800ish from Vancouver or $600ish for 2-3 weeks from victoria
i got it through expedia for around 730 from victoria thanksgiving weekend for 6 days (you get 6 full days...but sundays are kinda rest day in Polynesia where no shops are opened etc.)
stops in vancouver/lax and i'll ask ac if I can just get on at vancouver...if not it's kinda of a hassle (but for return I'll get off at vancouver and forfeit the victoria leg)
i know last black friday 700ish was already considered a smoking deal
2-3 weeks might seem long but you can island hop around (the lesser known cook islands, or to tahiti/fiji)..i don't have that luxury with work as I'm already anticipating another 4 weeks off

almost booked flights last night after seeing your post...was going to flyout of victoria at $653 each, and ya just got take the flight from van back over
just could pull the trigger....honestly the accommodation options there don't really look that appealing for the price. $100 a night gets you someones like basic looking suite/house on air BNB and the "nice" resorts are WAAAYY more
but in the end it's about the scenery and it looks amazing, have fun
