Got a 1991 Totoya Corolla that mechanic said needed to replace front brakes. Said it was $425, is this way overpriced?

Shop is Amin's Auto Service, had great reviews so trusted that they'd be honest. Just wanted a second opinion!

I think you need to dig a bit deeper and ask a few more questions, such as:

- Which parts are being replaced? (i.e. calipers / brake pads / rotors / etc.)
- Using factory Toyota parts or aftermarket
- Does the quote include labour and warranty?

Hopefully someone with more experience an chime in. And always get a written quote, and ask for a second opinion elsewhere.

Also get a quote for everything and ask your local Toyota how much it is and you might be surprised

and bought pads and rotors for my mom's mdx, and with labor at an indie mechanic i was around $450-500 when it was all over, and that's including an extra set of front pads the seller sent by accident that they ended up giving to me.

having said that, like the others have already posted above, we don't know what needs to be done. caliper rebuild? fluid flush?

rust and seized parts can also be an issue. especially on older vehicles.

If it's just the pads, they are not hard to DIY. You can rent tools from Canadian Tires.

if you're doing c.p.r (calibers, pads, and rotors) with the fluid flush that's about right. pads n rotors with labour shouldn't be more than 3xx$

Usual just brake job using toyota parts at the dealer comes to about 350... this is labour and parts (machining rotors, replacing pads, lubing pins and cleaning lubing contact points). Oem toyota pads are about 115.00 right now, but that being said you can find oem supplier pads for cheaper at places like lordco and such.

Given the price you were quoted they could be overcharging or they include something else in the brake job that would be included at that price. Always a good idea to ask for a parts and labour break down of the job when you get a quote usually always good to see what the shop is including at that price.
