We all know the years of loyalty rarely mean anything so who cares.
With that said, someone on RFD reporting that Bell is matching the plan which is no secret by now but the 10gb will be for life vs just for 2 years.

I've been with Telus Mobility for over 12 years now. I just call their loyalty department and negotiate with them. No issues.

I waited 40 mins to get a hold of them only to be shut down. Fido rep even suggested I switch over to rogers.
So i walked into a rogers store and got it done in 10 mins.
Maybe tomorrow they'll smarten up and honor the deal to existing customers.
But it's going to be a gong show for the all carriers in the next couple days trying to match one another.

I called into Telus for a family member to switch this or something similar. A good 60 minutes and four different customer service reps later, we went from from 10 months left in a contract, 1GB, local calling plus the ridiculous phone insurance for $105+tax to 6GB, nationwide talk and text for $75 AND we are out of the contract.
Still a far cry from my Koodo $50/5GB, but a win nonetheless, as the plan is now month-to-month and we can now switch over to Bell or Rogers without penalty :fuckyea:

I called Rogers twice today and tried a live chat agent. All agents told me to Port to fido, because they couldn't match the same God damn plan they're offering to new customers - so I did. So I ported my Rogers line and Telus line. My Rogers line ported in 30 minutes whereas my Telus line won't Port because I need to contact their porting department which was closed. Does anyone know why that's happening? I think it's just a ploy to keep my Telus line on Telus and I'm not to happy with them so if they want to keep my service they're going to have to give a little.
it's a port out comp loss tactic telus uses for mobile and residential

I hear ya, I had one experience with Bell about 4 years ago and it was the most horrible experience I ever had. We literally had zero reception the moment we walked into the house and we live in a regular single family home with no floors sub ground and this was in Vancouver. It got out of control I had to escalate the issue up through CRTC to make Bell let us out of the contract we signed.

Not really happy with Fido.
Remember last year when Public Mobile had this sweet deal, and Fido and Rogers were trying to match. $40/4gb. My wife missed out on the PM deal so she went with Fido. Then not even a year later, they bait and switch and bumped up the price already.

Okay lots of information floating about.. let me clarify the details.
I was a 10 year Rogers Customer on their corporate 350 plan 5gb for 50 bucks flat. Been on this plan for 6 years now never had a price bump or never had any issues.
I just went to Bell, got myself the S8+ (plus) 64gb in black, paid ZERO dollars and am enrolled in a 85 dollar per month plan. The plan includes 10gbs and unlimited everything else including Canada Wide calling on their fastest network LTE.
I paid zero dollars because I traded in my S7. Had I kept the S7 I would of gotten the exact same plan above 10gb for only 60 dollars per month. There is no expiration or end date for this plan its continuous.
I am paying an additional 25 bucks (totaling 85 per month) because I wanted the hardware s8+. This hardware = I am bound to a 2 year contract.
If you went without the hardware and did 60 bucks per month (bring your own device then its NO contract).
After my 2 year contract, unfortunately I still pay 85 per month. It will NOT drop down to 60 per month. But I will probably renegotiate my contract at that time.
So if you have your own device it's better to get the 60 per month because it remains 60.
If you go with Rogers or Fido you can get the same 60/month for 10 gig. However you only get 10gig for 2 years. After 2 years you still pay 60/month but you only get 5gbs.
So today I walked out paying zero dollars upfront, got an s8+, paying 85/month for 10gigs indefinitely. Hope that helps.
Edit: the Manager said this deal was not advertised, effective today, and is on for 48 hours, to his knowledge. Just relaying what he told me.

I had the opposite problem of only using my only personal phone and rarely my work phone other than for work emails.
Anyways, what I ended up doing was call-forwarding my personal line to my work line, use a SMS forwarder app and then used my personal number for my whatsapp installed on my work phone
With the sms forwarded, you can still get the SMS validation codes that whatsapp/google/fb sends you for 2-factor authentication
But you will need a spare phone plugged in 24/7 for that sms forwarder to work

I'm hearing that it's theoretically possible to get a Pixel 2 with Rogers' 5+5 plan from a friend, but then again it's sort of a worse deal by comparison. However, the thought of a new phone is attractive.

- $40 4gb UNL Canada wide talk and text

I called Rogers around noon today to get my Rogers plan upgraded to the promo one. The initial rep said they couldn’t match it because it was for new activations only. She said they could only offer 4 GB share data share everything plan over $100 and I politely said no. I told her a few companies were doing the Promo and I would leave a Rogers for them. They transferred me up to Customer Relations and I told that person the same story. She ended up matching the $60 promo.
From start to finish it took about 55 minute (from the customer service rep to customer the relations to getting it setup in their system.

^i was on the 40 dollar plan for 4gb on virgin mobile. Never went up in price. I switched to the 10gb plan last night over the phone. I confirmed with them thats its the exact same thing as the 40 for 4gb except this time its canada wide calling vs province wide before. The plan's price and 10gb will never go away as long as you personally dont make changes to your plan.
Bell and Virgin are offering this as perminent 10gb and they both say that the plan price will not go up unless you personally make changes to your plan. Now by changes i mean adding or removing features to alter your monthly payments. It wont be affected if you make changes like adding a line or removing a line under your account or changing your address.
I can vouch for that because the 40 for 4gb, i removed my second line which had the additional 10%off and i changed my address, all the while still only paying 40 for 4gb
Just got word that Fido is now matching the no expiry on the 10gig plan

just spoke to a rogers rep.
i'm currently on a 90$ per month plan (7gb, unlimited everything), month to month with a ip7.
he said i can switch to the new $60 plan no problem, but instead recommended i switch to the new $85 plan (exact same as the $60plan) because the $85 is a "premium" plan and allows a $550 upgrade discount on a new phone whereas the $60 plan offers 0 discount.
if i go with the $60 plan, and decide to upgrade my phone within the next 2 years, i'd have to switch to a newer plan in order to get a hardware discount (which at that point, both the new $60 and $85 plan will be gone, and a similar plan to those would be ~$130). However with Shaw bringing competition to the market, maybe in a year from now that similar $130 plan will only be $80-100.
something to think about for those considering upgrading their phone in the near future..

Avoid the "subsidy" phone contract trap. You're paying for it in the end anyways.
Having you own device gives you more leverage negotiating and the versatility to switch carriers instantly.
Just got word that Fido is now matching the no expiry on the 10gig plan
2 year no expiry isnt a big deal. You can renegotiate when the time comes since your not bound by any contract.
And who knows...in 2 years 100gb or unlimited data will become the standard. These crooked telecom companies are the ones throttling the future.

That really depends on where you're coming from. If you're currently on like some shitty $60 with 1 or 2 gig, then signing up for the subsidy is worth it. You pay no more or less and you get a device free.
I'm speaking about Freedom in particular. Pretty insane deals going on right now. However, I'm skeptical about their reception.

Yea, now that Rogers has changed it to 10gb forever and also to existing customers there's no point in my holding onto my Corp 350 plan. No brainer now but volume is high I can't even change my plan online because the changing plan page just keep loading and loading.
yeah i'm on the old corp 350 plan still, now a loyalty plan, and 66 per month taxes in. 5 gigs, unlimited everything else, i'm still kind of hesitant to switch to the new 10 gig plan in case they screw everyone in 2 years.

That's why switch to the Koodo 10gb plan, they won't compromise customer service over those type of issues
EDIT: I've been in out of province plans for the last three years, and Koodo hasn't said or mention anything about it when I call into customer service.
Rogers and Fido on the other hand will push and shove you into a corner, forcing you into a in market plan. Or to tell you to suck it up cause they're jacking up the monthly service fees.

If you can get access to someone who works at Freedom Mobile, you can get the 10GB for $32.50... the coverage and signal is better then before.. so its improving... you also get access to Shaw Wifi hotpots, if you arent currently a shaw customer...

How are the line ups at the mall for switching? I've been on hold with Rogers for 40 minutes now out of an estimated 3 hour wait time and I need to leave for work in an hour.. lol
Went to Koodo at Richmond Centre. No wait at all. Everything changed from Public to Koodo in about 10 mins.

It's called Wi-Fi.

Current Fido customer here and I switchedtoday @ the Fido kiosk inside Lougheed Mall.
No lineups and was out of there in 5 mins.
The sales rep did try to upsell me by getting a Pixel 2 phone for free if I take the $85/month plan but I quickly declined. I knew it was coming.
I also double checked with the rep that the Fido version of this plan is 10GB permanently like Bell's. The documents still say 5GB + 5GB (24months expiry). I told him to add in that it is now permanent, just in case they somehow decide to change it.

Upgraded from $60/6GB BYOP from last year's boxing day. Which lacked access to Fido Roam (Roam Like Home), but had 1000 LD minutes.
So now I'm paying the same amount for 4GBs more and access to Fido Roam. Also has 6 month Spotify premium and that Data Bytes stuff. Wasn't making use of the 1000 LD minutes anyways, so no loss there.

Rogers is offering the following plans for pre paid chatr and rogers customers. Was looking to get my step son on the 4gig $40 plan.
- $20 No Data UNL Canada wide talk and text
- $40 4gb UNL Canada wide talk and text
- $50 6gb UNL Canada wide talk and text
Looking at what people who currently have it are saying, they bumped it up to $45, they'll probably do it again right?
did anyone get the $40 4gb plan?
I switched from Fido to Rogers because I wasn't too worried about which carrier to go with because they all have the promo on the 10gig plan. So after switching to rogers I find out rogers only has Canada wide texting in the promo plan and to add U.S and international texting its $5 extra on top where as fido has international texting included in the $60 plan, so I went back and switched back to fido with the $60 plan.

You should not have any problems getting this switched over. The agent also confirmed it is now available for existing customers, as it originally wasn't when the promo first started.
An excerpt from my live chat regarding 5+5 being permanent vs. going back to 5 after 24 months:
And you're right! It doesn't go down now after 24 months. That was just changed 2 hours ago.
Here is the full FIDO plan for those curious:
The $60 Data, Talk & Text Pulse plan comes with:
- Unlimited Canada-wide anytime calls
- 5 GB (over usage: $7/100 MB)
- Unlimited text/picture/video msgs from Canada to Canadian, U.S. and international cells
- Call Display (Number only)
- Mini Voicemail (max 3 msgs, can be upgraded to 35 msgs)
- Circle Calling™
- Fido Roam™
- Discover Spotify for up to 6 months
- 5 FREE hours of data (1 hour, 5 times per billing cycle) with Data Bytes™
Not only that, but as a gift for the holidays, we’re happy to give you a 5 GB bonus for free! This is a promotional BYOP plan and as such, any discounts or offers are not compatible and if you wish to get an agreement later on, you'll have to change the plan.

Thankfully the second rep I talked to called me back to confirm it went through, fuck lol. Finally going to sleep now

I didn't and I feel a hell of a lot better. Public attracted customers cuz they were cheaper than everybody else. But now they're not, there's really no reason to still use them. Before I had their 90 day 12 gb plan for $120, but the 10 gb for $60 plan is way better plus other companies actually have customer service unlike Public.

all done... although total hold time between 2 calls were about 1.5hours.
my goals were to:
1. change out my corp plan to the $40/4gig
2. port over a FIDO line to the $40/4gig
3. open up a brand new line for my little kid $20/talktext no data
first try: got a hold of someone sat evening - his 'system' was down and he could not make changes to anything. BUT he told me he would call me back Sunday.
2nd try: called in on Sunday - she could not make changes to my business account and told me to call back on a weekday when they were open. (sigh)
3rd try: went to a retail store at the local mall and was flatly shut down on above goals.
4th try: didnt expect this at all, but the dude from the 1st try called me back and got it all done . sometimes miracles do happen, lol.

The other option you guys should do is going to your local Walmart or Superstore and signing up at The Mobile Shop. Significantly less traffic at those cell phone areas within Walmart and Superstore compared to the official stores in the mall

screw calling in or waiting for live chat, this takes like 5 mins
To help alleviate pressure on phone and retail employees, Fido announced earlier tonight customers can now jump on the $60/10GB plan by switching to it themselves via My Account on Fido.ca.
“Make sure to get in on our Holideals while they’re hot! Skip the wait times and stay one step ahead with our self-serve options. Select our $60 5GB BYOP Pulse plan, and a 5GB bonus will be automatically added!”, reads the tweet from @FidoSolutions.

My account online says 5 GB, but I received a text yesterday saying my 10 GB plan is permanent...

I tried going into a Telus store this morning, the rep said that they can't to the $60/10gb/BYOD plan in store. When I call in, it usually automatically hangs up before the call starts, and when I do get through it hangs up after about 3 minutes.

After trying to do it online and trying through facebook chat i finally called the 1866 431 9749 number
got through first ring to a woman who then got me to support directly, I ended up buying out the remaining balance on our 2 devices for approx $450 and got both numbers on seperate $60 plans, so saving approx $70 a month now, but device buyout will be paid off in like 6 months
and now i'll just be buying phones outright, no more BS with rogers.
My buddy also phoned that 1866 number and got through directly after about the 10th attempt, good tip on the last page whoever mentioned the 1866 number thanks!

This is the best deal since the $60/6GB plan back when the blackberry Bold and a iPhone 3 came out.
Public WiFi in General is pretty shitty and most block apps like Instagram etc. with 10GB you could use your data heavily every day and it’s unlikely you’ll ever go over, never have to worry about connecting to public WiFi.
Also the fact that there is no contract commitment, personally I’m going to come out way ahead next harware upgrade when I buy my phone outright

Is not like Rougers/Fido have a choice. I was on their online chat at 9am. Also message them FB and tweet. Waited till around 2pm when I got up from my desk to grab water literally around a min. Got back to my desk and saw the agent who did the chat couldn't bother to wait and just end chat. No one on FB or tweet reply even posting on their fourms does nothing. Had enough and went to bell.

In my experience Telus service is not as good as Rogers imo.
Around the Kamloops area there are huge regions of zero Telus coverage and as 68 style says, even in the heart of delta and surrey I’ve run into complexes where customers of Telus cannot get signal within their apartment/townhouse complex.
And that’s with Telus..can only imagine some of the other carriers

Saying one company gets better signal than the other really depends where you are most of the time. At my girlfriend's old townhouse in Coquitlam I'd barely get a signal with Rogers and she had no issues with Telus. In Langley at my friend's house I'd always lose LTE and couldn't browse anything with Rogers, so find out who's coverage is best where to spend the majority of the time and stick with them.

This is true, however Fido has a history of jacking their rates shortly after any deals + I hate them... I also hate Rogers by default due to Fido hatred... plus I lose the $15 on a Koodo sim card if I go that route... dance with the devil or put up with no phone calls at home...............
I will say so far that Koodo seems faster than my old Fido line. Everything is faster than my Freedom service was.

its not just about staying w/ thr respective providers. grass is always greener.
fido use to give me $5 discount for having multiple lines, they took it away this year, and i have telus internet. so i get $5 for multiple lines w/ telus. and $3 off for multiple services, per service. Plus i go on the island so often, noticed fido service is shitty near ferry terminals and in the middle etc.
that said. rogers/fido/telus had huge lines at lougheed ,, bell not so much. Bell (company i have worked for in the past) will come out as loser in all this/ many negative stories in the news lately, personally they have old think and slow to change, + not so much on customer satisfaction.

So I pay that amount and next month I got a bill for over a hundred dollars. Basically I call back the CSR on the other end saw the notes but claims that agent was mistaken and he can't do nothing. It seems like whatever they said doesn't really mean anything at all.
