I saw this on my facebook and thought it was a joke at first, but nope. The Dept of Defense revealed its UFO program titled Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP) and was active until 2012.
It of course doesn't assume that a UFO is extra terrestrial - basically it involves anything that flies that can't be explained with their current knowledge.

No one has any idea what these things are, and while you can dismiss most of the claimed sightings (if not all), having the US government themselves confirming sightings is pretty significant IMO
