Dumbass driver. Vehicular assault on a police officer.

-not even the shitty and dangerous drivers in the Lower Mainland would do something that stupid on a police officer.

Judging by the modified vehicles behind (GTR and challenger) the C63 at 0:12, they might be part of a car club, group or whatever. It almost looks like theyre holding back traffic so that they could do burnouts

If you have ever driven through Manhattan through Times Square, you would know you don't get too far quickly; I just did it last summer and it was a true test of patience. That, and there is almost a cop at every major intersection (but the traffic cops are not armed).

I realize his life was in danger, but is it appropriate to draw your gun at that moment? he could've shot himself or a bystander once he went sideways

It's all about risk assessment, and that's literally attempted murder on a Peace Officer.

So, it is very appropriate to draw his firearm.

Discharging the firearm is another matter, but yet, another justifiable option.

the facebook post i read claimed that the license plates came back registered to a different vehicle. it didn't say if they were stolen.

Like what Ferrari stated, unless it's bulletproof, then the bullet will most likely win.

In the end, it's what the officer perceives as a threat and how/she will deal with it appropriately. If he's confident in his own skills, then pull the trigger.

Otherwise, improvise.

There's always a chance it may ricochet, but there's chances in everything we do in life.

Is there a chance that I'll get T-boned by an idiot driver running a red light?
Well since I'm in Richmond...

Sucks being an officer. If he had shot the guy and killed him all hell would break lose saying he could have handled the situation differently. Yet he risk not using lethal force and almost got killed being run over by the car.

I'm no police officer, but pulling your gun and shooting would be slightly uncalled for when your dealing with a traffic violation lol If you talked about after the attempted murder... well that's another story.

its not like some cops dont get away from shooting someone who complies.

AzNightmare
01-16-2018, 05:36 PM
People are too fixated on the drawing of the gun. I'm sure the officer himself totally didn't expect the guy to suddenly drive off or run him over. When a situation suddenly escalates to immediate danger, his immediate response, maybe even reactionary, will be to pull a gun out. Taking out the taser and baton is for more controlled scenarios where the danger levels can be more easily analyzed or foreseen.

Maybe if the driver hesitated, the officer would then have a gun drawn in his face which would be pretty intimidating. But who knew this driver was batshit crazy and was fully committed, even if it meant the possibility of running over an officer or sideswiping a bunch of cars to get away.

Hahaha! I saw this and immediately thought to myself, "You're an idiot".

TO be fair, why did the cops chase him by foot? they had two cruisers (Which they ran past).

NEW YORK -- Two people have been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run of a police officer in Times Square, CBS New York reports. The NYPD says Arfhy Santos, 20, and William Lopez, 24, were arrested Wednesday afternoon in New York. They are both from the Bronx and are part of a car club, NYPD says.

The officer was struck while trying to stop a black 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-63 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Broadway and West 43rd Street. The car was seen crossing the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Monday night, police sources said.

NYPD officials gave a press briefing Wednesday night and reported that the vehicle was not in police custody.

"The Mercedes made a wide right turn on 42nd Street, it went around a truck, it hit into several vehicles as it was attempted to escape. And then from 42nd Street it heads toward the West Side," Chief of Manhattan Detectives William Aubry said.

Arfhy Santos, 20, and William Lopez, 24, have been arrested in the hit-and-run of an NYPD officer in Times Square. NYPD

"It took a lot of courage for that police officer to stand there," NYPD official said, and the officer's instincts took over.

Lopez is the owner of the car and Santos drove it, NYPD says.

After clipping the cop, the driver sped off, turning onto 42nd Street. The officer and another colleague ran down the street with their guns drawn, trying to chase the driver, who hit other vehicles as he made his getaway.

Police said Santos and Lopez have criminal pasts.

"Based on past actions of these two people, they don't just give up, they don't just surrender, they try to escape and they use a vehicle as a weapon to do so," Aubry said. "That's in their history that we looked at. They use whatever means they can to flee that scene."

"These are men that drive these cars, and, as you've seen on the video, they don't just stop for a police officer," he added.

The officer who was hit, a four-year veteran of the force, suffered minor leg and back injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police asked for the public's help tracking down the four-door sedan, which likely has damage to its passenger side.

Charges against Santos and Lopez are pending.

They're not *that* pricey for one - you can get a W204 C63 for mid 20s USD. The E55 AMG are solidly in the Low 10s, and the W211 E63 are low 20s.
