Also rooting for Torro Rosso Honda to silence the naysayers. Not expecting them to finish anywhere near the top but some consistency and occasional top 10 finishes would be nice. I think everyone is predicting them to be last since Sauber has updated Ferrari engines.

I know this might have been discussed in the entertainment forum, but has anyone checked out 'Grand Prix' on Amazon Prime? its 4 episodes on the 2017 testing for McLaren...thought it was pretty solid.
as the RB14 I thought was pretty nice...makes the halo not look so bad
Also:
"Renault and Sauber are launching on Tuesday, world champion Mercedes and rivals Ferrari on Thursday and McLaren on Friday."

First day of testing complete. Alonso loses a wheel bearing on lap 6 lol
Add to the drama, Torro Rosso ran middle pack time on soft tires and did almost 100 laps with no problems, albeit they may have been detuned for reliability
Nothing else exciting, Mercedes most likely sandbagging again

1) Nice to see Red Bull is showing some earlier test pace.
2) Although it didn't say... Mercedes is using a harder compound than Ferrari... is this a precursor so another year of Mercedes > Ferrari?
3) Honda engine seemed to be more reliable after how many tries?? Lost count...
4) Come on Alonso... wait... the wheel flew off... Come on McLaren, at least tighten the nuts!!

As much as I would love Toro Rosso to beat McLaren, pretty sure McLaren will be fighting for top 5s once they get the initial testing done and Toro Rosso will be hovering around the fringes of top 10.

Back to reality for STR :(
F1 races are best when there's some safety car drama, they should almost switch to ultra tires+ only and force teams to make 4-5 stops a race for some added dramatic effect.

What a crazy race! Ferrari have impressive pace this season as do Red Bull. For the first time in a while I think it’s a three horse race. Kind of early to call it but from what I’ve seen so far I don’t think Mercedes will be walking away with it easy this season, Ferrari have proven they have the pace if they can just get their race strategy sorted and RB just need Max to calm down and time his overtakes. One of the commentators said it best, it’s like Max is playing poker and going all in on every hand.

Super GT really wants to get people into the series. Full onboard of Jenks at round 1. Since SGT GT500 unified rules with DTM, the cars are running 4-cylinder turbo engines. Honda's version sounds more like a formula car than the ones from Nissan and Lexus.

Long story short GT500 is essentially DTM specifications, and GT300 is mostly FIA GT3 and some cars built to specifically run in that class.

Change to aerodynamic rules for next year, hopefully it helps with more overtaking (this year has been pretty good though):
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/motor/formula1/2018/05/01/new-f1-rules-approved-to-improve-overtaking-and-racing/34431881/
PARIS (AP) — Motorsport's governing body has approved rule changes designed to increase overtaking and promote closer racing in Formula One as part of an ongoing initiative to win back fans.
From next year, F1 aerodynamics will be simplified. Cars will have a front wing with a larger span, simplified brake ducts, and a wider rear wing.
FIA said the changes approved at its World Motor Sport Council meeting on Monday followed "an intense period of research" which led to a majority electronic vote from the F1 teams.
The front wings will also have a low outwash potential. This means less air from the front wing will be generated around the outside of the tires, which in turn will less hinder the downforce and grip of the car behind trying to overtake.
The proposals also have the backing of F1 owner Liberty Media and have been ratified for 2019, the FIA said in a statement on Tuesday.
The approved changes are separate to the ongoing work being undertaken in regard to defining F1 regulations for 2021 and beyond, when the current set of rules, known as the Concorde Agreement, expire.
The biggest change in 2021 will center on engines, budget caps and wealth distribution, in order to create a more level playing field. In the future, F1 wants cheaper, louder, more powerful engines — but also wants them more reliable to reduce the amount of grid penalties. The new engines, or power units, must also be accessible to any new teams — such as Aston Martin — planning to enter the series.
But F1 has been fast-tracking some changes that did not need to wait until 2021.
Recently, measures were approved for an increase in race fuel allowance in order to allow drivers to race at full power for longer, and the separation of driver weight from car weight to end the disadvantage of heavier drivers.

Good races need to happen without a safety car artificially bunching up the cars for the last 25 laps. Otherwise they might as well do sprint races.

How is a safety car 'artificial'? The track needs to be slowed down due to an incident. Short of artificial means, with the current regulations, how do you propose solving 'Good races need to happen'?
I think we can all agree the time delta between cars required to make a pass needs to be vastly shortened (Christian Horner suggested it was up to 3 seconds for the redbull this weekend). At least with true safety cars periods there was a good race to watch, if they put out the VSC for every incident this weekend it would have been a snoozefest.
