mini 4runner? :ahwow:
the 2019 RAV4 is powered by a Dynamic Force 2.5-litre inline-four mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota brags that the base engine offers an incredible (for an internal combustion engine) 40 per cent efficiency. Mated to Rear Driveline Disconnect system, which routes all the AWD system’s power to the front wheels for greater fuel efficiency, Toyota claims significant fuel consumption gains, though it doesn’t say how much.
As for the Hybrid version, it combines the 2.5L engine — now with 41 per cent efficiency — and Toyota promises class leading fuel economy and “no compromise” performance.
On the dynamic front, Toyota claims a whopping 57 per cent increase in the unibody’s rigidity, which should translate into better handling and ride qualities. There’s even a Trail version of the RAV4, which Toyota says has a “stout stance, standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD, and a reliable and tough functionality that’s apt for any road.” The Trail also a more rugged exterior, thanks to its more aggressive grille, fog light surrounds, and unique wheel design.

The one on the right looks gorgeous. Wow. I'm even digging the roof treatment that looks similar to the old FJ Cruiser.
If Toyota makes the 4Runner update look like a bigger, more squared-off, more off-roadable version of this thing I will be very impressed!

I'm digging the size and style, the new 4Runners are getting too big. Might have to look into this when the time comes to give up the truck.

Rear end is like VW Tiguan and Mitsubishi Eclipse-Cross had a baby.
Wonder what the performance numbers are like. Knowing Toyota, it'll likely be 90% FWD until it detects slip...
Edit: Found its actually 100% FWD until slip... "Mated to Rear Driveline Disconnect system, which routes all the AWD system’s power to the front wheels for greater fuel efficiency"

And turn slowly AF because SUVs.

Potentially. I'd be interested to see what percentage thinks that grill looks pretty though.

some dont prefer the bulldog snout grille that was started with the R35 and Evo X...so I can definitely see people opting for the conventional (even if it's uglier to me) cheese grater grille

Paint that grille on the left black and it wouldn't be so bad.

They look good, but I want the V6 back. Pulling away from people trying to pace me on the highway with my in-laws powder blue Rav is one of the best parts of a road trip.

I love it. Toyota's really making a comeback. First the TNGA platform and making everything at least LOOK sportier, if not much sportier to drive.
Also torque vectoring AWD in this category is quite impressive, sounds like SH-AWD, which is an incredible performing system.
First the Supra, then the Corolla Hatch with a rev-matching 6spd, now this. They be on fiyahhh.

My job has about a dozen prius and camry from various generation. They get driven a lot at about 50k annually without any major issues aside from basic maintenance.

Toyota needs to bring diesel options here. The best truck I've ever owned was a 3rd gen hilux surf. I miss the old square body designs.

Toyota Hybrid System is probably the best hybrid system in the market right now. If you drive a lot and plan to keep the car for a while and want to save lots of gas, would definitely recommend a hybrid.
hybrid trail would be nice
in4 trail edition to be on bridgestone road tires

+1 echoing everybody here wanting a V6 (or at least some engine with V6 power).
When I got my Rav4 V6 it was originally just gonna be a don't care daily driver, but I've come to really like it.
It's getting up there in mileage tho, was considering buying a newer/lower KM Rav4 V6 of the same generation to replace mine before it hit 200k if there was no similar alternative in the new market.

If it's the same 2.5L Dynamic Force motor as the one found in the new Camry, should be the same power output. Just like how the Lexus UX and the Corolla Hatch will have the same power output of 168hp from the 2.0L Dynamic Force motor.
Glad the Corolla is getting a power boost. Test drove the 2018 Corolla a few weeks ago and holy fuck is that thing gutless. GF's 09 Versa has more pull.

They should absolutely do this.
That, and add a selector to choose full-time AWD. This driveshaft disconnect thing is fine, just leave that function in an ECO mode.

The Hybrid will be the trim to get - more power, better fuel economy, and hopefully better refinement.
The new Dynamic Force 2.5 was pretty rough in the Camry I drove.

This is a interesting article that compares the two top dogs although I feel Motor Trend has stocks in Honda lol They named the Accord superior to the Camry as well ( Which I agree with). Cant wait for the next Honda event so I can compare both in person.
https://www.motortrend.com/cars/honda/cr-v/2018/2019-toyota-rav4-2018-honda-cr-v-comparison-test/
On a off topic/side note, Honda is reviving the Passport. Which is already out in Asia under the name U-RV. I think its going to sit somewhere between the CRV and the Pilot. I reckon its going to be a bigger, sportier version of the CrossTour.

As a guy that drove a few CRV, I feel the biggest let down for the interior is 2 things. 1, the shifter it's always this wobbly shaky shifter. 2, the infotainment system has aged, it NEEDS the better one from the accord/odyessy/pilot
And Honda Canada teased the Passport not too long ago on one of their post, very interested to see this. But in the pics they teased it doesn't have the sloping rear end as the UR-v

I don't think the v6 would fit, the Camry's engine bay is larger.

I totally agree that the CRV needs a update on the infotainment. I think the 2019's are just around the corner and hopefully they get the update.
I thought the photo Honda Canada teased was just a picture of a Pilot lol I never really looked up close until now. Now I'm super curious to see what it will look like.

I thought it was the Pilot as well, but the D pillar looks a bit different in the teased pic there's a cut line where the roofline is that leads to the spoiler, the pilot has a crease line there but not a hard dual cut like the indicated picture.

Yeah its basically a Pilot for people that don't need the 3rd row. Its going to be competition for the Cherokee and the 4Runner.
I wish they put a proper 4x4 system and beefed it up with wheels and suspension to make it a bit more bad ass. Also, Im not at all a fan of the rear end but will wait till I see it in person.
