The 8 Series is back! But does it look like a mustang or is it just me?

As title states - I see mustang!

https://jalopnik.com/this-530-hp-bmw-m850i-will-be-the-baddest-new-bmw-8-ser-1825549250
In a press release, BMW has confirmed that the M850i xDrive Coupe will have a “completely redeveloped V8 engine,” so no V12 on the record yet, rated to make the aforementioned 530 horsepower and, perhaps more impressively, 554 lb-ft of torque from 1,800 RPM. That will be paired with an 8-speed automatic.
The car’s Head of Suspension Application, Jos Van As, is quoted in the same release saying the new 8 will be capable of “exceptionally high cornering speeds prior to the intervention of the electronics. So those who wish can drive on the racing track with active DSC, too.”
I suppose it's likely to replace the 2-door 6 series, and make the 6 series a 4-door only model.

another gran touring car. LC500 isnt doing that well, and neither are the 650 coupes, CLS, etc.
Not sure why they would make a low volume GT car when the market is already soft.

If the new z4 can be a Supra, why can’t the new 850i be a Mustang GT

I loved the old 8 series because it looked like nothing else that BMW had at the time. This looks like any other current BMW coupe, just bigger...

I can't unsee it. So the new 8 series GT looks like the Mustang GT, the new MB A-Class looks like a Volvo crossbred with an Infiniti, a Sonata, and some S3 genes in there. The new Camry is way more wild than the Lexus ES.
It's interesting to see the more economy manufactures design more out of the box designs, and the luxury mfgs taking design cues from the aforementioned.

Anyway, the Camry design is interesting. I like the black colored camry better, I actually haven't seen that many Camrys in other colors. I'd imagine white to be pretty gross. Still better than the Civic Hatch turbo

They copied many of the design cues from the Maxima, so it's not really something different.

I still see mustang.. but it also looks like they took an M4 and stretched it. Reported to have 530hp, powered by a twin-turbo V8. 0-60 in 3.7 secs (seems slow/average for today's standards). Comes standard with a 8-speed slushbox and xdrive. Do they even make rwd only BMWs anymore?

Why is every post about a new car littered with comments of the car looking like this car, or that car, or x+y+z mashed into one, etc.
Every car is going to resemble something else that's been done before... there's only so many ways you can design a car and still make it look appealing.
When people start going out of the box and making things like the Aztek or the old Tribeca, no one likes it.

Same to be said for the rumored 4-door mustang, the new Supra (Z4), the Mitsubishi Eclipse (which is now a SUV).
Mfgs should really stop using a "legendary" name for something that won't ever really live up to the classics. The brand recognition of a "Supra" isn't the new Z4, it's the old school one.

Recently took a quick drive in one of these as they start to arrive to dealers
Exterior is quite nice. Moving past the mustang references etc it is actually a pretty beautifully designed big coupe. The road presence this has is surprising as normally people don't really bat an eye at most BMW's in Richmond but I witnessed a guy take out his phone and take some pics in traffic.

https://i.imgur.com/IJTloEvl.jpg
Interior is nice but sort of underwhelming considering everything thats in it is 99% out of the new X5. Apart from the nicer leather the entire design follows the new BMW language which is pretty much expected, just wished the 8 had more uniqueness to it

Engine/Driving Dynamics is where this beast shines. The way this car moves is very surprising considering its size. The power is much greater than the old 6 series and you can feel it keep on pulling with 0 turbo lag. Handling is okay with the rear steering helping the chassis move and typical BMW steering feel but you can't expect track performance from this big GT car.

No doubt the S coupe is an amazing car - way more “baller” status for sure
But have to consider the S63 is a good 60k more than the 8, the S560 coupe is still 30k off from the 8’s msrp and the 8 outperforms the S560 in every way

the S class coupe interior just has a bit of a more bespoke feel to it, especially with piano black and the designo interiors!

After driving the M850i I felt relatively unimpressed. I guess for $144k I hoped for a bit more? Like previously said the S-class interior is far better but it's also priced a lot higher. The 8-Class fits in between the E and the S as the S is a bit bigger.
That said, the 8 is quick and agile. Rear wheel steering helps a lot reducing the wheelbase and makes the car feel smaller although you feel the weight going through turns. Power is strong and pulls well throughout the entire rev-range.

also being BMW logic, they can get away with charging more on MSRP since its a bigger number.
