Bodyshop Recommendations - lower black trim painting

Its odd.. i called a few shops including Craftsmen Collision on Main st and they telling me the black trim that is often found along the lower sides and rears on most SUVs cannot be painted?
I want to get them painted to match body color...any recommendations on which body shop? I'm thinking PENNEY AUTOBODY on main/marine.

Are you talking about this?

They could probably paint it but it might require a bit of work since I believe the plastic bit has a texture to it.
My friend got his spoiler painted at Penney and the paint looks like playdough. It was a cash deal though soooo...:ahwow:
I'd recommend speaking with Danny @ Herberts in Richmond

I've used A Jetway, Peter is really good to deal with and gives great deals and good work.

If by "trim" you're referring to the inside trim of the vehicle (door trim, pillar trim) then yes that can not be painted.
Only way you can do that is call a dealer and see if they have different trim panel covers for different trim levels of your vehicle.
Hope you have deep pockets because that will run you an arm and a leg.

yup exactly that -re: trim on the exterior . i dipped it just to try it out and see how it looks...so now i like it and want it done right. i'll look up the above...
EDIT: just called openroad autobody and they said same thing paint may not adhere... odd cuz i got my RSX done so long ago and it held up just fine.

Yup. Just gotta load the paint full of Bumper flex agent. The Coupe quattro lower trims are rubber, and they were successfully painted.

I thought the plastics has to be sanded down before you can.

Sorry we do not get into painting trim pieces like this on vehicles

I already tried a few years ago with my Infiniti FX.
I wanted all lower trims painted around the vehicle and no shop could do it. After a year of calling around I just gave up.
if every shop is advising me not to do this and that they are not willing to perform the work then... it should mean something..

Its the Tri-coat color matching that's the problem, there is no issue with adhesion or anything. If someone is willing to do it be prepared to pay close to $900 to have the 4 mouldings painted FYI.

i'm fine with $900..it makes such a huge difference...but holy crap.. someone out there gotta be able to get it done.. i mean i did the same on a 2002 rsx... base model... i wish i could remember which shop i went to.. .damn.
for now, i guess a shoddy plastidip/pearlizer will have to do...

Give Overseas in Surrey a call. They painted the black trim on my X5d back in 2012 and it held up really well to this day.

Why not leave it plastidip, or vinyl it? I assume the mfr leaves those as black plastic since it's in an area that's going to be hit by debris and chipped, at least if it's dip or vinyl it's cheaper and easy to redo when it gets banged up.

^Not sure what I'm looking at here....
I assume the trim?? Looks pretty damn good if that's the case...
The colour mismatch must be much more noticeable in person if you're willing to pay $900 to make it better.

Yah the bottom trim ....in certain light it’s totally a different shade of white.

too much white... but whatever floats your boat
what if you go to shops and tell them you don't need their warranty?

If you paint your trim pieces without sanding down the texture it'll look really bad. It'll look like it was painted over gravel guard and the color will be off regardless. Different substrate, different color result. Properly done will require to use a coarse grit to evenly sand out the texture and then applying plastic primer/adhesion promotor, primer -surfacer , re-sand, re-prime if required, re-sand again if primer was applied the second time, then finally it can be ready for paint process. Minimum 2 day process but more likely 4 days

how long is a typically paint warranty?
the clear coat on my bumper has a sizable blot...not from any scuff or rock chip

Most reputable shops offer lifetime warranty for as long as you own your car. However these days barely anyone keeps their cars for longer than 5 years. If the blot on your bumper is within reason I don't see why the shop who did it wouldn't warranty it. I have though, come across a customer who warrantied their repair but they were not the owner who had it originally fixed.

Try Dr. Dip in Surrey. He might be able to offer a closer paint match with liquid wrap

It’s a much better match than dip...complete with clear coat.
